Imperia (; lij, Inpêia or ) is a coastal city and ''comune'' in the region of Liguria, Italy. It is the capital of the Province of Imperia, and historically it was capital of the ''Intemelia'' district of Liguria. Benito Mussolini created the city of Imperia on 21 October 1923 by combining Porto Maurizio and Oneglia, as well as the surrounding village communes of Piani, Caramagna Ligure, Castelvecchio di Santa Maria Maggiore, Borgo Sant'Agata, Costa d'Oneglia, Poggi, Torrazza, Moltedo and Montegrazie. Imperia is well known for the cultivation of flowers and olives, and is a popular summer destination for visitors. The local Piscina Felice Cascione indoor pool has hosted numerous national and international aquatics events. Claudio Scajola
Claudio Scajola (; born 15 January 1948 in Imperia) is an Italian politician, current Mayor of Imperia. Career A long-time Christian Democrat, he was Mayor of Imperia during a short period in the 1980s and from 1990 to 1995, as his father and his brother had been. When Christian Democracy disbanded, he joined Forza Italia in 1995. He was then elected deputy in 1996 and was national coordinator of the party from 1996 to 2001 (and again in 2003). He also led a faction named after him, the '' Scajoliani''. He was minister of interior from 2001 to 2002 and later minister of productive activities in the third cabinet of Silvio Berlusconi. In this capacity, Scajola was a strong advocate for the Italian re-entry into commercial use of nuclear power for the generation of electricity. The Impero is a stream of Liguria (Italy). Caffaro di Rustico da Caschifellone ( 1080 – c. 1164) was a statesman, diplomat, admiral and historian of the Republic of Genoa. Between 1122 and 1149 he served eight terms as a consul. His most enduring work was the ''Annales ianuenses'' ("Genoese annals"), the official history of the Genoese republic, which he began and which was continued by successors down to 1294. He also wrote ''Ystoria captionis Almarie et Turtuose'', an account of the siege of Almería (1 August – 17 October 1147) and the siege of Tortosa (1 July – 30 December 1148). Caffaro was born in the village of Caschifellone (now part of Serra Riccò) in either 1080 or 1081.
