Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Juticalpa
The Immaculate Conception Cathedral ( es, Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción , also Juticalpa Cathedral) is a Catholic Church located in the city of Juticalpa, in the department of Olancho, part of the Central American country of Honduras. It is one of the four cathedrals dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of St. Mary in Honduran territory, the others being Choluteca, Comayagua and DanlÃ. History According to one historian, it was Fray Antonio Bertrand in 1734 who first called for a church to be built in Juticalpa, asking for funds from the Captaincy General of Guatemala. Members of the local community contributed according to their means, as well as parishioners. Not much is known about this original church. Work on a new building commenced in 1835 by the master builder Hipólito Estrada. His work was interrupted and Enrique Cañas continued. Juticalpa
Juticalpa () is the capital of Olancho Department in Honduras, with a population of 69,850 (2020 calculation), and the municipal seat of Juticalpa Municipality. Situated in a broad river valley alongside the Rio Juticalpa, the town is a commercial centre for much of Olancho's ranching and agricultural economy. Its Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción, devoted to the immaculate Conception, is the cathedral episcopal see of the suffragan Roman Catholic Diocese of Juticalpa. Geography The Juticalpa area encompasses the Guayape River valley, bordered by the Sierra de Agalta Mountain range, range. Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. Choluteca, Choluteca
Choluteca is a municipality and the capital city of the Honduran department of the same name. Situated in southern Honduras between El Salvador and Nicaragua, the city is generally considered the regional centre of southern Honduras and is a major transit point on the Pan-American Highway. It has a major bus station and is home to the regional light (ENEE) and water (SANAA) utilities. The city is located on the Choluteca River, near the centre of the department. An arching silver bridge crosses the river into the city. Choluteca's population of 96,410 (2020 calculation) makes it the seventh largest city in the country. Comayagua
Comayagua () is a city, municipality and old capital of Honduras, located northwest of Tegucigalpa on the highway to San Pedro Sula and above sea level. The accelerated growth experienced by the city of Comayagua led the municipal authorities to structure a territorial reorganization plan. Between the years of 1945 -1975 the population of the city quadrupled due to the high rate of population growth achieved at that time (4.8%) and to migratory movements in the interior of the country. In 2020 the estimated population of the city was 111,700. It is the capital of the Comayagua department of Honduras and it is noted for its wealth of Spanish Colonial architecture.
