Ilmar Taska (born May 21, 1953, in Vyatka) is an Estonian filmmaker and writer, who was writer and producer for 20th Century Fox movie '' Back in the USSR'' (1992) and producer for ''Candles in the Dark'' directed by Maximilian Schell. Ilmar Taska's 2016 novel ''Pobeda 1946'' has been translated into many languages and was nominated for the Jarl Hellemann Translation Prize in Finland as best translated book of the year (translated by Jouko Vanhanen). Ilmar Taska was born in Russia, where his family had been sent from Estonia by Stalin's repressions before WW2. Ilmar Reepalu
Ilmar Reepalu (born 11 October 1943) is an Estonian-born Swedish Social Democrat politician who was the 17th chairman of the municipal board in Malmö from 1994 to 2013. After a professional life as an urban planner in Borås and Malmö, he became a municipal commissioner of Malmö in 1985. In opposition from 1985 to 1994, he then served as chairman of the municipal board – a position similar to that of mayor – from the 1994 election until his retirement on 1 July 2013. During his term as chairman of the municipal board, Reepalu was lauded as being instrumental in the transformation of Malmö from an industrial town in decline towards being a centre of knowledge and modern architecture. He also was criticized strongly during his term, both for a surge in crime in the city, and accusations of antisemitism for comments he made in which he allegedly associated attacks on Jews in Malmö with their support for Israel. Ilmar Aluvee
Ilmar Aluvee (25 November 1969 – 17 January 2013) was an Estonian ski jumper, biathlete, and coach. He competed in the Nordic combined event at the 1994 Winter Olympics. Early life Ilmar Aluvee was born in Tallinn to former biathlete Valev Aluvee and Raaja Aluvee (''née'' Kaasik). He graduated from secondary school in 1988 and was a 1997 graduate of Tallinn University of Technology. He began training with Uno Kajak in 1977 for Kalev Ski Club, and later with Tiit Tamm for Dünamo Ski Club. Career In 1994, Aluvee placed 39th in Lillehammer at the 1994 Winter Olympics. Ilmar Kullam (15 June 1922 in Tartu – 2 November 2011 in Tartu) was an Estonian basketball player who competed for the Soviet Union in the 1952 Summer Olympics. Ilmar Laaban
Ilmar Laaban, (11 December 1921, Tallinn, Estonia – 29 November 2000, Stockholm) was an Estonian poet and literary critic. Early life and education Laaban attended the first Tallinn Boys' Gymnasium from 1934 to 1940. In 1939–1940 and 1941–1942 he studied composition and piano at the Tallinn Conservatory. In 1940–1943 Laaban studied Romance languages at the University of Tartu. In 1943, he went to Sweden, fleeing the Occupation of the Baltic states, and continued studying Romance languages and philosophy (1943–1949). Career Laaban worked as a lecturer in Stockholm University and was a member of International Association of Art Critics. Laaban mainly wrote surrealistic poetry and was one of the first poets in Estonia to practice that genre. He has written essays and articles on art and literature. Ilmar Öpik (17 June 1917 Tallinn – 29 July 2001) was an Estonian energetics scientist, academician. In 1940 he graduated from Tallinn University of Technology as an engineer-mechanic. In 1963 he defended his doctoral thesis at Moscow Energetics Institute ( et, Moskva Energeetika Instituut). Since 1946 he taught at Tallinn Polytechnical Institute. Since 1967 he became a member of Estonian Academy of Sciences. 1977-1978 he was the vice-president of the academy. 1984-1996 he was the chief editor of the journal ''Oil Shale''. Much of his research was related to oil shale.
