Romanian (obsolete spellings: Rumanian or Roumanian; autonym: ''limba română'' , or ''românește'', ) is the official and main language of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Ilie Savu
Ilie Savu (9 January 1920 – 16 November 2010) was a Romanian footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He was Steaua București's first goalkeeper. Playing career Born in Cornățelu, Dâmbovița County, Romania, Savu began his career at 14 years of age, playing as a striker and as a goalkeeper. He played two seasons for Prahova Ploiești before he moved to Bucharest, where he played five seasons for Venus București. In this period he also played two matches in the Romania national youth team. After Venus, he signed with Corvinul Deva where, in a period of four years, he played only a few matches because of the Second World War. After the war, he signed with Steaua București, being the goalkeeper of the first Steaua squad. He played three years for Steaua before his retirement. Ilie Sârbu
Ilie Sârbu (born 26 May 1950) is a Romanian theologian, economist and politician. A member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), he sat in the Romanian Senate from 2004 to 2015, representing Timiș County. In the Adrian Năstase cabinet, he was Agriculture Minister from 2000 until July 2004, and he held the same position in the Emil Boc cabinet between 2008 and 2009. He was Senate President for six weeks in 2008. He and his wife Mariana have a daughter, Daciana Sârbu. She, in turn, is married to Victor Ponta, who served alongside Ilie Sârbu in the Boc cabinet. Ilie II Rareş (also referred to as Iliaş; 1531 – January 1562) was Prince of Moldavia between 1546 and 1551. Ilie Popa (July 20, 1907 – July 26, 1983) was a Romanian mathematician and Head of the Mathematical Analysis Department at the University of Iași. He is known for his contributions to differential geometry, mathematical analysis, and the history of mathematics. Born in Iași, he attended the Costache Negruzzi High School in his native city. In 1927 he enrolled at the University of Iași, graduating in 1931. Upon graduation, he became an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science of the University of Iași and began his research activity under the guidance of his advisor, Alexander Myller. In 1932 Popa published his first papers (in differential geometry), in collaboration with . Ilie Pintilie (1903, Iași – 10 November 1940, Doftana) was a Romanian communist railroad worker and activist of the Romanian Communist Party (PCR). Pintilie joined the labour movement as an apprentice at the CFR workrooms in Nicolina-Iași, and became a member of the then-outlawed PCR in 1926. In February 1933, as the Griviţa Strike unfolded in Bucharest, he took part in organising railway strikes elsewhere (particularly in Iași and Pașcani) as a member of the national action committee. Between 1934 and 1937 he undertook important tasks in the leadership of CFR unions and was an active member of the anti-war movement, writing numerous articles in left-wing newspapers and magazines. Ilie Theodoriu Năstase (, born 19 July 1946) is a former World No. 1 Romanian tennis player. He was ranked world No. 1 in singles from 23 August 1973 to 2 June 1974, and was the first man to hold the top position on the computerized ATP rankings. Năstase is one of the 10 players in history who have won over 100 total ATP titles, with 64 in singles and 45 in doubles.Năstase won seven major titles: two in singles, three in men's doubles and two in mixed doubles. Ilie G. Murgulescu ( Cornu, 27 January 1902 – Bucharest, 28 October 1991) was a Romanian physical chemist and a communist politician. He was president of the Romanian Academy (1960–1963) and Minister of Education (1953–1956 and 1960–1963). He founded the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Romanian Academy where he presided until 1977. His investigations on physical chemistry covered a broad realm. Among main results can be cited those he got on molten salts electrochemistry. He did doctoral work on Copper thiosulfate complex photochemistry under Fritz Weigert in Leipzig as adviser. Ilie Lazăr
Ilie Lazăr (born December 12, 1895, Giulești, Maramureș County - d. November 6, 1976 Cluj-Napoca) was a Romanian jurist and politician, a leading member of the National Peasants' Party in the interwar period and the right-hand man of Iuliu Maniu. Lazăr fought in World War I to release Cernăuți, then he and Moldavian troops participated in the liberation of Sighet, where he would be imprisoned 34 years later. He was firstly a member of the Romanian National Party and in 1928 he won the seat of deputy for the National Peasants' Party. In 1946, before the parliamentary elections, he was arrested by the communist authorities on charges of treason, was imprisoned for seven months. His wife, Maria Lazăr, won the seat of deputy in his place, proving his popularity.
