Ilasco is an unincorporated community in Ralls County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. History Ilasco had its start as a cement factory company town; the name Ilasco is an acronym of cement components, namely iron, lime, aluminum, silica, carbon, and oxygen. A post office called Ilasco was established in 1919, and remained in operation until 1960. Ralls County, Missouri
Ralls County is a county located in the northeastern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,355. Its county seat is New London. The county was organized November 16, 1820 and named for Daniel Ralls, Missouri state legislator. Ralls County is part of the Hannibal, MO Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Quincy-Hannibal, IL-MO Combined Statistical Area. History Ralls County was one of several along the Mississippi River settled in the early years primarily by European-American migrants from the Upper South, especially Kentucky and Tennessee. Ilasco Historic District is a national historic district located at Ilasco, Ralls County, Missouri. The district encompasses two contributing buildings and one contributing structure in the unincorporated community of Ilasco. It developed about 1909–1910, and includes a jail, a one-story commercial building with two storefronts, and a Pratt pony truss bridge. Gregg Andrews
Gregg Andrews (born 1950) is a professor of history and labor historian at Texas State University. Additionally, he is assistant director of the Center for Texas Music History and assistant director and co-editor of the ''Journal of Texas Music History.'' Andrews is also an accomplished folk musician, performing and recording under the pseudonym "Doctor G" alongside his band, The Mudcats. Early life Andrews was born in Ilasco, Missouri, to Maurice and Virginia Andrews (now Virginia Sudholt) in 1950. He grew up in Monkey Run, an unincorporated neighborhood of Ilasco literally "on the wrong side of the tracks" (the two towns were separated by railroad tracks).
