Iladalen Park (Oslo)
Iladalen Park is a park in the borough of Iladalen in the district of Sagene in Oslo, Norway. The 27.9 acre park was established in 1948. The park is the centerpiece of the overall planned residential facility in Iladalen, and is the city's best preserved park in the functionalist style, with simplicity and objectivity in design. To the north of the park is a 3.3-acre playground, with bronze sculpture "Kalv" by Ørnulf Bast Ørnulf Bast (25 January 1907 – 28 October 1974) was a Norwegian sculptor and painter particularly known for his public monuments. Background Ørnulf Bjarne Bast was born in Oslo. His parents were Halsten Andersen Bast Birklund (1870–19 ..., added in 1957. Iladalen Church (''Iladalen kirke'') is also located adjacent to the park. Sagene
Sagene is a borough of the city of Oslo, Norway. The area became part of the city of Oslo (then Christiania) in 1859. The name Sagene itself is the plural of the Norwegian word for "saw", reflecting all the old industrial mechanical saws powered by the river Akerselva in this area in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Area The borough of Sagene includes the neighborhoods of Sagene, Bjølsen, Iladalen (Ila), Sandaker, Åsen, and Torshov. It is the smallest borough of Oslo, but compared to its relatively small size, it has a noteworthy population by Norwegian standards. In the west its border is the street Uelandsgate and the cemetery (''gravlund'') Nordre gravlund. In the north it borders Tåsen and Storo. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. During the Viking Age the area was part of Viken. Ørnulf Bast
Ørnulf Bast (25 January 1907 – 28 October 1974) was a Norwegian sculptor and painter particularly known for his public monuments. Background Ørnulf Bjarne Bast was born in Oslo. His parents were Halsten Andersen Bast Birklund (1870–1952) and Ida Mathilde Kristensen (1870–1960). Bast studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts (''Statens kunstakademi'') from 1927-30. He made several study trips, first to France from 1928 to 1929 and later to Britain, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain and North Africa, including Egypt, 1930 and 1932, and a new journey to Paris 1937. He was married in 1940 to Lajla von Hanno (1921–2010). During the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, Bast and his wife supplied a cover-up apartment for the Norwegian resistance movement, specifically for the staff of the sabotage squad Aks 13000, for some time. Iladalen Church
Iladalen Church is a church center, located in Oslo, Norway. The church was consecrated on May 22, 1941 (during World War II) by Bishop Eivind Berggrav as ''Iladalen småkirke'' ("Iladalen Chapel"). The church was then nicknamed the ''"Velsignelsens kirke"'' ("Church of Blessing") by the bishop.Knut Are Tvedt (ed.): Oslo byleksikon (5th ed.; Kunnskapsforlaget, 2010), pp 274-275 The church has facades of a tiled yellow brick, low pavement, roofed with red tiles, and the church tower is to the right side of the main entrance. The altarpiece is designed by Per Vigeland, and is carved by Wilhelm R. Sjøwall. Per Vigeland has also done the wall fresco and the stained glass behind the church organ. Chandeliers and lamps are designed by the architect. The church organ is from 1971 and has 11 voices. The two church bells are cast by Olsen Nauen Bell Foundry.
