''Il merlo maschio'' (''The Male Blackbird''), known in the United Kingdom as ''The Naked Cello'' or ''Secret Fantasy'' in the United States, is an Italian film in the ''commedia sexy all'italiana'' style, and presents a theme of candaulism, that was very rare at the time. It was filmed in 1971 by director Pasquale Festa Campanile, and starred Laura Antonelli and Lando Buzzanca. Synopsis Niccolò Vivaldi (Lando Buzzanca) is a frustrated cello player whose career has stalled and who is unappreciated by his orchestra director. He discovers that the beauty of his wife, Costanza (Laura Antonelli), arouses in him admiration for her, and reflects on him. Pasquale Festa Campanile
Pasquale Festa Campanile (28 July 1927 – 25 February 1986) was an Italian screenwriter, film director and novelist, best known as a prominent exponent of the commedia all'italiana genre. Life and career Born at Melfi, in the province of Potenza, he moved to Rome at young age. He started as a writer and literary critic. ''La nonna Sabella'', one of his novels, was later adapted by Dino Risi into the movie of the same name, internationally known as ''Oh! Sabella'' (1957). The Verona Arena ( it, Arena di Verona ) is a Roman amphitheatre in Piazza Bra in Verona, Italy built in 30 AD. It is still in use today and is internationally famous for the large-scale opera performances given there. It is one of the best preserved ancient structures of its kind. In ancient times, the arena's capacity was nearly 30,000 people. The stage for concerts and opera performances decreases the available places to a maximum of 22,000. Pedrolino
Pedrolino is a ''primo zanni'', or comic servant, of the ''Commedia dell'Arte''; the name is a hypocorism of ''Pedro'' (Peter), via the suffix ''-lino''. The character made its first appearance in the last quarter of the 16th century, apparently as the invention of the actor with whom the role was to be long identified, Giovanni Pellesini. Contemporary illustrations suggest that his white blouse and trousers constituted "a variant of the typical ''zanni'' suit", and his Bergamasque dialect marked him as a member of the "low" rustic class. Symphonic Orchestra
A symphony is an extended musical composition in Western classical music, most often for orchestra.
