Elsa Vazzoler
Elsa Vazzoler (10 May 1920 – 8 August 1989) was an Italian stage, film, television and voice actress. Life and career Born in Treviso, Vazzoler started studying acting and ballet after finishing high school. She debuted with dialect amateur dramatics, and in 1945 entered the stage company led by Memo Benassi. Vazzoler got her first leading role in 1949 under the stage direction of Anton Giulio Bragaglia, and later was first actress in the Cesco Baseggio company for several years. She was specialized in the Carlo Goldoni repertoire. Vazzoler was also active in cinema, in which she was mainly chosen to play character roles in comedies, in radio and on television, which gave her the greatest popularity with the general public thanks to the participation to some successful TV-series. ''The Great War'' ( it, La grande guerra) is a 1959 Italian comedy-drama war film directed by Mario Monicelli. It tells the story of an odd couple of army buddies in World War I; the movie, while played on a comedic register, does not hide from the viewer the horrors and grimness of trench warfare. Starring Alberto Sordi and Vittorio Gassman and produced by Dino De Laurentiis, the film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. Raffaello Matarazzo (17 August 1909 – 17 May 1966) was an Italian filmmaker. Life Matarazzo started writing film reviews for the Roman newspaper ''Il Tevere'' before re-editing scripts for the Italian film company Cines. His first films were comedies until he shifted to making melodramas. With '' Catene'', produced by Titanus in 1949, he became the most successful director in Italy. Audience loved his melodramas. Alberto Lattuada (; 13 November 1914 – 3 July 2005) was an Italian film director. Career Lattuada was born in Vaprio d'Adda, the son of composer Felice Lattuada. He was initially interested in literature, becoming, while still a student, a member of the editorial staff of the antifascist fortnightly ''Camminare...'' (1932) and part of the artists' group ''Corrente di Vita'' (1938). Before entering the film industry, Lattuada's father made him complete his studies as an architect even though he recognized his desire to make movies.
