Il Giardino dei Semplici (also spelled just as Giardino dei Semplici and often referred as GDS) are an Italian pop-rock music group, mainly successful in the 1970s and 1980s. Formed in late 1974, throughout various decades they have released 17 studio records, 3 live albums, 18 singles and many Greatest Hits albums. They have sold 4 million records. The group is well-known for its lead vocalists and singing in its signature choral falsetto; their music is a cohesive blend of genres. Career The group was formed in Naples by Gianni Averardi and Gianfranco Caliendo, in June 1974; it was officially launched in 1975 under the production of Giancarlo Bigazzi and Totò Savio. They got an almost immediate huge success, with several singles charting on the Italian hit parade. Giancarlo Bigazzi
Giancarlo Bigazzi (5 September 1940 – 19 January 2012) was an Italian music producer and composer. He was a former member of comedy music group Squallor. Life and career Born in Florence, he was one of the best known Italian songwriters and lyricists of the 1970s and 1980s. He wrote some of the most successful Italian pop records, many of which became international hits, such as "Gloria", "Self Control", "No Me Ames", " Tu", "Take the Heat off Me", "Mama". Totò Savio
Gaetano Savio (18 November 1937 – 25 July 2004), better known as Totò Savio, was an Italian composer, lyricist, producer, guitarist and occasional singer. Early life Born in Naples, Savio started playing guitar at six years old, and at 13 he won a radio contest for guitarists. In 1955 he became a member of the musical group of Marino Marini, with whom he toured in Europe and Africa. In 1961 he founded a band that bore his name, with whom he toured across Italy and participated to several radio and television programs. Career In the second half of the 1960s Savio started composing songs, getting his first hit in 1967, Little Tony's "Cuore matto". In 1973 he co-founded the comedy group Squallor, serving as composer and also occasionally performing as a singer. Canzone napoletana (), sometimes referred to as Neapolitan song ( nap, canzona napulitana ), is a generic term for a traditional form of music sung in the Neapolitan language, ordinarily for the male voice singing solo, although well represented by female soloists as well, and expressed in familiar genres such as the love song and serenade. Many of the songs are about the nostalgic longing for Naples as it once was. The Festivalbar was an Italian singing competition that took place in the most important Italian squares during summer, such as the Piazza del Duomo, Catania or Piazza Bra, Verona. The first edition took place in 1964 and was broadcast by RAI. The competition was held throughout the summer and the final round always took place at the Arena in Verona after 3-4 events in various cities of Italy. History Originally, the Festivalbar was a competition made with data from jukeboxes in Italian bars, so the competition was a one evening event transmitted by RAI. From 1983, Mediaset started to transmit this programme and the Festivalbar would change its location every week. The original promoter of the Festivalbar was Vittorio Salvetti. Katri Helena
Katri Helena Kalaoja (née Koistinen, born 17 August 1945) is a Finnish singer. Career Katri Helena released her first songs in 1963 and has since sold over 630,000 certified records, which makes her the second-best-selling female soloist in Finland behind Madonna and places her also among the top 20 best-selling music artists in the Finnish market. She has represented Finland twice in the Eurovision Song Contest: in 1979 with her song " Katson sineen taivaan" and in 1993 with " Tule luo". She also took part in the International Sopot Festival in 1969, singing "Valssi" during the Polish day. Personal life Katri Helena has been married three times. She had two daughters and a son with her husband Timo Kalaoja, who died of a heart attack in 1988.
