Ikigami
is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Motoro Mase. The manga was serialized in Shogakukan's ''Weekly Young Sunday'' (2005–2008) and ''Weekly Big Comic Spirits'' (2008–2012). A national prosperity law has been passed in a dystopian nation resulting in citizens between the ages of 18–24 being randomly selected to die for the good of the nation. These citizens are given 24-hour notification of their impending death. These notifications are known as "ikigami"—the ostensible reason for this system being to help demonstrate the value of life. The manga was adapted into a live-action film titled '' Ikigami'' in 2008 with Tomoyuki Takimoto as its director. Plot summary In first grade, all students receive an inoculation. Ikigami (2008 Film)
is a 2008 Japanese film based on '' Ikigami: The Ultimate Limit'', a manga written by Motoro Mase. Plot ''Ikigami'' takes place in a dystopian society where the government has implemented the "Prosperity Law". This law dictates 1 in 1000 random citizens ages 18~24 will die for the state in a mandatory lottery. Death occurs at a preset date and time, which is when an injected nano-capsule, received at an early age, explodes. The law is meant to create appreciation for life by instilling fear in order make people live the best possible lives. Once it is decided you will die, you receive your “Ikigami” or “Death Letter” 24 hours in advance. The Death Letter entitles the chosen to free transportation, lodging, and food for their last day alive. Shota Matsuda
is a Japanese actor. Matsuda is best known for his roles in the ''Hana Yori Dango'' series, the ''Liar Game'' series, and '' Love Shuffle''. Personal life Matsuda was born on September 10, 1985 in Suginami, Tokyo, Japan, to Yūsaku Matsuda, a Japanese actor of partial Korean ancestry, and Miyuki Matsuda (née Kumagai). Weekly Young Sunday
was a weekly manga magazine published by Shogakukan in Japan since the first issue on March 27, 1987. It replaced ''Shōnen Big Comic'' in Shogakukan's lineup of shōnen titles, and many of the titles in ''Shōnen Big Comic'' were continued in ''Young Sunday''. The magazines was sometimes called for short. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of ''Weekly Young Sunday'', Shogakukan and Yahoo! Auctions Japan held a charity auction benefitting the Green Cross Japan. Various manga artists donated signed original artwork, and Shogakukan donated rare goods related to the series and people appearing in the magazine. On May 30, 2008, Shogakukan announced that they would cease publication of the magazine. The final issue was released on July 31, 2008.
