Igor Zavozin
Igor Leonidovich Zavozin (russian: И́горь Леони́дович Заво́зин; 3 August 1955 – 29 May 2019) was a Russian Soviet ice dancer. With his former wife Elena Garanina, he represented the Soviet Union in international competition, winning the 1978 Nebelhorn Trophy and 1981 Winter Universiade, although they never made it to the World Figure Skating Championships due to the depth of the Soviet dance field. After turning pro, Garanina and Zavozin toured with Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. They were the parents of American ice dancer Maxim Zavozin and have since divorced. The Figure Skating Federation of Russia (russian: Федерация фигурного катания на коньках России, lit. ''Figure Skating on Skates Federation of Russia'') is the national sport governing body for figure skating in Russia. It is recognized as such by Russian Olympic Committee and by the International Skating Union (ISU). No individual membership exists, and its members are in various ice sports associations. It was founded in 1992 as the successor of the Figure Skating Federation of the USSR (Soviet Union). The goals of this governing body are: taking a plan of competitions by the calendar, developing a curriculum for figure skating in Russia, forming a national team, making contracts with sportsmen and coaches, international relations with other skating organizations, assistance to regional federations, organizing the Rostelecom Cup (formerly the Cup of Russia) and other important events. Skate America
Skate America is an international, senior-level figure skating competition held as part of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series. It is hosted by U.S. Figure Skating. The location changes yearly. Medals are awarded in four disciplines: men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The first Skate America (officially called Norton Skate) was held in 1979 in Lake Placid, New York, and was the test event for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. Universiade Medalists In Figure Skating
The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games; however, this latter term can also refer to competitions for sub-University grades students. In July 2020 as part of a new branding system by the FISU, it was stated that the Universiade will be officially branded as the FISU World University Games. The most recent games were held in 2019: the Winter Universiade was held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia while the Summer Universiade was held in Naples, Italy.
