Ignatius P. Lobo
Ignatius P. Lobo (27 April 1919 – 17 February 2010) was an Indian prelate of the Catholic Church. As of 2009, he was one of oldest Roman Catholic Bishops from India. Lobo was born in Siolim, India and ordained priest 21 December 1947. He was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Belgaum on 26 September 1967 and retired from same diocese on 1 December 1994. A bishop is an ordained clergy member who is entrusted with a position of authority and oversight in a religious institution. In Christianity, bishops are normally responsible for the governance of dioceses. The role or office of bishop is called episcopacy. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Belgaum ( la, Belgaumen(sis)) is a diocese located in the city of Belgaum in the ecclesiastical province of Bangalore in India. History The Belgaum Diocese was erected on 19 September 1953 by the papal bull ''Summa illa Sollicitudo'' of Pope Pius XII. Two civil districts of Belgaum and North Kanara were separated from the Archdiocese of Goa and two other civil districts of Dharwad and Bijapur were taken from the Diocese of Pune in forming the Diocese of Belgaum. The most Rev. Dr. Michael Rodrigues was appointed the first bishop. By the papal bull ''Christi Missium'' of Paul VI, the North Kanara District was separated from the Belgaum Diocese to form the Karwar Diocese on 24 January 1976. Siolim
Siolim () is a village in Bardez taluka, and a census town on the central west coast of India, in the North Goa district of Goa. The 2001 population was 10,311, and 10,936 in 2011. Siolim is also the name of a constituency in the Goa assembly, which includes Assagao, Anjuna and Oxel, in addition to Siolim. A person from Siolim is known as a ''Siolcar'' or even as ''Shivalkar'' (). Location Siolim is situated about 7 km (4.3 mi) from Mapusa. It is located around the Chapora River.
