Ignacio Calles (born 24 October 1995) is an Argentinian rugby union player, currently playing for Top 14 side Pau. His preferred position is prop. Amateur career Calles started playing rugby at Los Cardos in Tandil, Argentina. After a few years he move to Buenos Aires and played in Liceo Naval (rugby) until 2016 where he signed a contract Section Paloise, the representative team of the city of Pau. Professional career Calles signed a new deal with Pau in October 2020, having originally joined the side in 2018. Prop (rugby Union)
In the game of rugby union, there are 15 players on each team, comprising eight forwards (wearing jerseys numbered 1–8) and seven backs (numbered 9–15). In addition, there may be up to eight replacement players "on the bench", numbered 16–23. Players are not restricted to a single position, although they generally specialise in just one or two that suit their skills and body types. Players that play multiple positions are called "utility players". Forwards compete for the ball in scrums and line-outs and are generally bigger and stronger than the backs. Props push in the scrums, while the hooker tries to secure the ball for their team by "hooking" it back with their heel. Liceo Naval (rugby)
Centro de Gradudados del Liceo Naval Militar, or simply Liceo Naval, is an Argentine sports club formed by graduates from Liceo Naval "Almirante Brown" (Almirante Brown Naval High School), one of the two educative institutions of the Argentine Navy. The field is located in Núñez, Buenos Aires, close to the Ciudad Universitaria. Section Paloise (, Bearnese: ), commonly referred to as ''Section'' or as ''Pau'' , is a professional rugby union club based in Pau, France. They compete in the Top 14, France's top division of rugby, and the EPCR Challenge Cup. Their home ground is the Stade du Hameau, after 80 years of playing at the Croix du Prince stadium (1910-1990). The club won the Bouclier de Brennus three times in 1928, 1946 and 1964 and the European Challenge in 2000. Argentina XV, formerly known as the Jaguares, are the second national rugby union team in Argentina, after the full national side, the Pumas. Overview They already represented Argentina at the South American Rugby Championship, in 2001, 2002, 2005, 2009 and 2011. Argentina second side won all the South American competitions they have entered and never were defeated yet by another country in these tournaments. The Top 14 () is a professional rugby union club competition that is played in France. Created in 1892, the Top 14 is at the top of the national league system operated by the French National Rugby League, also known by its French initialism of LNR. There is promotion and relegation between the Top 14 and the next level down, the Rugby Pro D2. The fourteen best rugby teams in France participate in the competition, hence the name Top 14. 2020 Tri Nations Series
The 2020 Tri Nations Series was the seventeenth edition of the annual southern hemisphere competition, involving Argentina, Australia and New Zealand. On 16 October 2020, 2019 Rugby Championship winners and 2019 Rugby World Cup champions South Africa confirmed their withdrawal from the originally planned 2020 Rugby Championship due to South African government travel restrictions, player welfare and safety concerns related to COVID-19. This meant that the competition temporarily returned to its previous Tri-Nations format - played across six weekends with each team playing each other twice. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament was moved to later in the year than usual.
