Idwal Davies (footballer)
Robert Idwal Davies (17 August 1899 – 7 June 1980) was a Welsh amateur footballer who played as a centre-forward for various clubs in the 1920s including brief spells with Southport and Bolton Wanderers in the Football League. He also made six appearances in amateur internationals for Wales and one full international appearance against Scotland in 1923. Football career Davies was born in Ewloe Green, Flintshire, the son of a Presbyterian minister and educated at Abergele County School. During the First World War, he enlisted in the London Scottish Battalion and was later in the Gordon Highlanders, playing football for both regiments. After he was demobbed, he joined Conway of the North Wales Coast League before returning to his place of birth with Buckley United, who were playing in the West Cheshire League. Ewloe Green
Ewloe (; cy, Ewlo, ) is a village and electoral ward in the community of Hawarden in Flintshire, Wales. It is situated close to the Flintshire/Cheshire sector of the Wales-England border. The A55 expressway passes through Ewloe and its most notable landmark is Ewloe Castle. The Ewloe electoral ward had a population at the 2011 Census of 5,420. The urban area of the village is contiguous with Hawarden, Buckley and Shotton. The Office for National Statistics deems Ewloe to form part of the Buckley built-up area, which covers much of Deeside. Economy Ewloe grew rapidly during the late 1990s and early 2000s and is now the home of the internet based Moneysupermarket.com and construction company Redrow. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. After the creation of the Premier League, the name First Division was given to the second-tier division (from 1992). The name ceased to exist after the 2003–04 First Division season. Andrew Nesbit Wilson
Andrew Nesbit Wilson (14 February 1896 – 15 October 1973) was a Scottish footballer who played for Middlesbrough, Heart of Midlothian, Dunfermline Athletic, Chelsea, Queens Park Rangers, Sporting Club Nîmois and the Scotland national team. Playing career Middlesbrough and military service Wilson was born in Newmains, Lanarkshire. He joined Middlesbrough from junior side Cambuslang Rangers in 1914. His early career was interrupted by the First World War during which his left hand and forearm were shattered by enemy fire at Arras. He wore a glove to mask the withered hand and forearm for the rest of his life. Heart of Midlothian and Leeds City Wilson debuted for Heart of Midlothian in January 1918, playing for them until the end of the following season. Crosby, Merseyside
Crosby is a coastal town in the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton, Merseyside, England. Historically in Lancashire, it is north of Bootle, south of Southport and Formby, and west of Netherton. The North Wales Coast League was a North Walian association football league that existed from 1893 until 1921.
