The June 2012–April 2013 Idlib Governorate clashes was a series of clashes within the scope of the Syrian civil war, that took place in Syria's Idlib Governorate. The events followed the April 2012 Idlib Governorate Operation by the Syrian government and consequent cease-fire attempt, which had lasted from 14 April to 2 June 2012. Background Timeline June 2012 In early June, the area known as the al-Ghab plain, was reportedly under rebel control. One of the main rebel headquarters was in the town of Qalaat al-Madiq. The Syrian Government army still had a base near Qalaat al-Mudiq, in the old citadel, but was respecting a truce with the rebels. Fadlallah al-Haji ( ar, فَضْلَ اللَّه الْحَجِي, Faḍlallāh al-Ḥajī) is a Syrian rebel leader, close to Turkey and the Muslim Brotherhood. Considered a "scrupulous military man" by other Syrian rebel leaders and a "Turkish protégé", al-Haji has led the Sham Legion since its formation in 2014. As a result of the Syrian Civil War since 2011, there are at least two flags used to represent Syria, used by different factions in the war. Liwaa al-Umma ( ar, لواء الامة ''Liwāʼ al-Ummah'', meaning "Liwa (Arabic), Banner of the Ummah, Nation") was a Salafi jihadism, Salafi jihadist group fighting against the Syrian government in the Syrian Civil War. Ahrar Ash-Sham
Harakat Ahrar al-Sham al-Islamiyya ( ar-at, حركة أحرار الشام الإسلامية, Ḥarakat Aḥrāru š-Šām al-Islāmiyah, lit=Islamic Movement of the Freemen of the Levant), commonly referred to as Ahrar al-Sham, is a coalition of multiple Islamist and Salafist units that coalesced into a single brigade and later a division in order to fight against the Syrian Government led by Bashar al-Assad during the Syrian Civil War.
