''Icons of Evil'' is the sixth album by Vital Remains. It was released in April 2007. The sample in "Where is Your God Now" is taken from the Mel Gibson film ''The Passion of the Christ'' and from William Peter Blatty's ''The Exorcist''. ''Icons of Evil'' is the last album to feature vocalist Glen Benton and guitarist Dave Suzuki. The album cover art is actually a modified depiction from a scene in the film ''The Passion of the Christ'' where Jesus is nailed to the cross. Vital Remains
Vital Remains is an American death metal band from Providence, Rhode Island, formed in 1988. History Formation and early years Guitarist Paul Flynn formed Vital Remains in 1988. Vital Remains' first line-up included Paul Flynn on lead guitar, Butch Machado on rhythm guitar, vocalist Mike Flynn, bassist Tom Supkow and drummer Chris Dupont. Mike Flynn is credited with coining the band's name. Paul soon revamped the band with musicians that fit his vision, and added Tony Lazaro and vocalist Jeff Gruslin to the line-up. Lazaro and Flynn shared the song writing duties, and released a pair of demos (1989's ''Reduced to Ashes'' and 1990's ''Excruciating Pain''). The band secured a contract with French label Thrash Records, and released the single "The Black Mass" in 1991. Glen Benton
Glen Benton (born June 18, 1967) is an American death metal musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist and bassist for the death metal band Deicide and was also a part of the band Vital Remains, where he has performed in recording sessions as well as live with them on a few occasions. He is known for very low guttural growls as well as very high shrieks. Biography Benton was born in Niagara Falls, New York but was raised in Tampa, Florida. It was here on July 21, 1987, after guitarist Brian Hoffman replied to Benton's advertisement in a local music magazine, Deicide was formed. Within days the band, consisting of Benton (bass/vocals), Hoffman, Hoffman's brother Eric (guitars) and Steve Asheim (drums), was named "Amon", after the Egyptian deity. Within a month, Amon had recorded the crude ''Feasting the Beast'' 8-track demo in Benton's garage and had started playing the occasional gig in the Tampa area. In music performances, rhythm guitar is a technique and role that performs a combination of two functions: to provide all or part of the rhythmic pulse in conjunction with other instruments from the rhythm section (e.g., drum kit, bass guitar); and to provide all or part of the harmony, i.e. the chords from a song's chord progression, where a chord is a group of notes played together. Dave Suzuki (born February 8, 1972) is an American death metal multi-instrumentalist from Las Vegas, Nevada. He is best known for his work as the guitarist, lyricist, bassist, and drummer for Vital Remains from 1995 to 2007 and as a touring guitarist with Deicide from 2004 to 2005. Since 2011, he has been the guitarist and vocalist for the doom/death metal band Churchburn.
