Icelandic Basketball Association Men's All-Star Game
The Icelandic Basketball Association Men's All-Star Game was a basketball exhibition game hosted by the Icelandic Basketball Association (KKÍ). It was held was held periodically until 1988 when it was held annually to 2014 and featured a mix of the countries star players. The first annual All-Star Game was played at the Hlíðarendi on 27 January 1988. It was last held on 24 January 2014 at the Ásvellir stadium. The teams selections varied from year to year, with sports journalists selecting the teams during the first years while later teams were selected by fans and coaches. The Icelandic Basketball Association (''Icelandic:Körfuknattleikssamband Íslands - KKÍ'') is the national governing body of basketball in Iceland and is a member of the continental association FIBA Europe and the global International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Njarðvík Men's Basketball
The Njarðvík men's basketball team, commonly known as Njarðvík or UMFN, is the men's basketball department of Ungmennafélag Njarðvíkur, based in the town of Reykjanesbær in Iceland. It is one of the most successful men's team in Icelandic basketball, winning 17 national championships. The team, then known as Íþróttafélag Keflavíkurflugvallar (ÍKF), was one of the founding members of the Icelandic top league in 1952 and won the first Icelandic men's championship that same year. In 1969 the team merged into Ungmennafélag Njarðvíkur and became its basketball department. Hafnarfjörður (), officially Hafnarfjarðarkaupstaður (), is a port town and municipality in Iceland, located about south of Reykjavík. The municipality consists of two non-contiguous areas in the Capital Region, on the southwest coast of the country. Benedikt Rúnar Guðmundsson (born 19 August 1972) is an Icelandic professional basketball coach for Úrvalsdeild karla club Njarðvík and the Icelandic women's national basketball team. He has been named Úrvalsdeild karla Coach of the Year twice: in the 2006–07 season and in the 2008–09 season,. In both seasons, he won the Icelandic men's championship KR. He has been named the Úrvalsdeild kvenna Coach of the year twice; in 2010, when he also won the Icelandic women's championship with KR, and in 2019. Coaching career After coaching Þór Þorlákshöfn from 2010, Benedikt took over Þór Akureyri men's and women's teams in 2015. Sherrick (July 6, 1957 – January 22, 1999) was an American soul singer and musician. Biography He was born F Lamonte-Smith; or Lamotte Smith in 1957 in Sacramento, California, United States. Sherrick was given his professional break by producer Raynoma Gordy Singleton (née Mayberry), former wife of Motown founder Berry Gordy. Sherrick was the lead singer of the Motown group, Kagny, who recorded a song for the Motown movie, ''The Last Dragon'' in 1985. He signed with Warner Bros. Records in 1987, co-producing an album with Michael Stokes and with Ray Singleton as an executive producer. The album, titled '' Sherrick'', included "Just Call" which reached number 8 in the US '' Billboard'' R&B chart. The Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur men's basketball team, commonly known as ÍR, is the men's basketball department of Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. It is based in Reykjavík, Iceland and was one of the pioneers of basketball in Iceland and one of the founding members of the men's Úrvalsdeild. From 1954 to 1977, the team won fifteen national championships. John Kevin Rhodes (born September 25, 1965) is an American basketball coach and former professional basketball player. College Rhodes played for Ohio University from 1984 to 1988, averaging 8.9 points and 7.3 rebounds in 102 games. Rhodes served as team captain and was named All-MAC second-team his senior year. Playing career Rhodes started his career in Germany in 1988 before playing two seasons in France. Rhodes joined Úrvalsdeild karla club Haukar in 1991. He was selected to the 1992 Icelandic All-Star game, scoring 8 points. On March 6, 1992, Rhodes scored 31 points against KR in 88-81 victory in the Icelandic Basketball Cup semi-finals and helped Haukar to the Cup finals where his matchup with Njarðvík's Rondey Robinson was highly anticipated. The Valur men's basketball team, commonly known as Valur, is a basketball team based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is part of the Valur multi-sport club. History The club was founded as ''Gosi'' on 25 December 1951 and was one of the founding members of the Icelandic men's top division. On 22 December 1957 the club changed its name to ''Körfuknattleiksfélag Reykjavíkur'' (English: Reykjavík Basketball Club) and played under that name until 1970.
