Ice Palace (Cherepovets)
The Ice Palace is a 6,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Cherepovets, Russia. It was opened in 2007. It replaced Sports-Concert Hall Almaz as the home of Russian ice hockey team Severstal Cherepovets. History The decision to build a new ice arena was made in 2003. It was first announced by the governor of the Vologda Region Vyacheslav Pozgalev at the opening of the hockey season on September 12, 2003 after Severstal's victory over Metallurg Novokuznetsk. April 8, 2005 Vyacheslav Pozgalev took part in the ceremony of laying the first stone. The palace was built by Skanska, which has previously been involved in the construction of ice sports complexes in St. Petersburg and Yaroslavl. At first, the sports complex was supposed to be called "Olympic", but this name was not liked by many Cherepovets and the International Olympic Committee. Cherepovets
Cherepovets ( rus, Череповец, p=tɕɪrʲɪpɐˈvʲɛts) is a city in Vologda Oblast, Russia, located in the west of the oblast on the banks of the Sheksna River (a tributary of the Volga River) and on the shores of the Rybinsk Reservoir. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 312,310, making it the most populous city in the oblast. Etymology The origin of the word "Cherepovets" is a subject of much debate among the local historians. According to one version, the city supposedly received its name from the word "skull" (russian: череп, ''cherep''). In antiquity, a pagan sanctuary was there in honor of the god Veles on the hill at the confluence of the Sheksna and Yagorba Rivers. The top of the hill was called the "skull." Another version suggests that the word "Cherepovets" originates from the name of the tribe "Ves" (), who inhabited the Sheksna's banks. Lesopoval (russian: Лесопова́л , translated as "tree felling" or "logging camp", a symbol of Siberian labor camps and also of the forced labor within the camps) is a Russian band formed in 1990 by Mikhail Tanich and Sergey Korzhukov. Their music is in the style of Russian chanson, which is music from the perspective of the criminal underworld. The hero of many of their songs is often a criminal or ex-convict, and their songs contain many references to the way such "marginalized" persons live. The songs in many way romanticize the life of criminals, many of them taking place in and concerning labor camps and prison. Mikhail Tanich wrote the lyrics to every song the group performed until his death on April 17, 2008. In writing the lyrics to the songs Lesopoval performed, Mikhail Tanich drew on the six years he spent in a Soviet labor camp, during which time he came to empathize with criminals from all walks of life. Alexander Nikolaevich Buinov (russian: Александр Николаевич Буйнов, born 24 March 1950) is a Russian singer, songwriter and keyboardist. Biography Kuzmin is the son of Boris Kuzmin, a naval officer, and Natalya Kuzmina, a Russian language and literature teacher. When he was young boy, Kuzmin played violin in musical school. Edvin Marton (born Lajos Edvin Csűry, 17 February 1974, Vylok, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian-born Hungarian composer and violinist.
