Ibrahim Ag Mohamed Assaleh
Ibrahim Ag Mohamed Assaleh is a Malian Tuareg politician. He has served as member of the National Assembly (Mali), National Assembly of Mali. During the early phases of the Northern Mali conflict he served as National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) external relations representative, before starting his own party, the Coalition for the People of Azawad (CPA) (French:Coalition du peuple pour l’Azawad), in March 2014, after a fallout with MNLA leader Bilal Ag Acherif. Career Assaleh has served as member of the National Assembly (Mali), National Assembly of Mali for the Bourem constituency. Assaleh was active as a mediator in kidnapping for ransom cases in Northern Mali. He led the talks for the MNLA with Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS leaders and Burkinabé President Blaise Compaoré in Burkina Faso in June 2012. Azawad
Azawad, or Azawagh (Tuareg: Azawaɣ, or Azawad; ar, أزواد) was a short-lived unrecognised state from 2012 to 2013. Azawagh (''Azawaɣ'') is the generic Tuareg Berber name of all Tuareg Berber areas, especially the northern half of Mali and northern and western Niger. Its independence was declared unilaterally by the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) in 2012, after a Tuareg rebellion drove the Malian Army from the region. Azawad, as claimed by the MNLA, comprises the Malian regions of Timbuktu, Kidal, Gao, as well as a part of Mopti region, encompassing about 60 percent of Mali's total land area. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS; also known as in French and Portuguese) is a regional political union, political and economic union of fifteen countries located in West Africa.
