Ian Thomson (13 April 1930 – 22 November 2014) was a Scotland international rugby union footballer, who played as a Full Back. Rugby career Amateur career Thomson played for Heriot's. He also played rugby for the Army. Provincial career Thomson played for Edinburgh District against Glasgow District in the 1950-51 season's Inter-City match and the 1951-52 season's Inter-City match. Edinburgh District lost both matches. International career He was capped for 7 times between 1951 and 1953, all 7 caps in Five Nations matches. Glasgow University Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. The men's side play in the university league; the women's side play in the . History GURFC was formed in 1869 and is one of the university's oldest student groups, predating the Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA), to which it is now affiliated. The team plays in black and gold, the colours of the university. The club is a founding member of the Scottish Rugby Union and has fielded thirteen full internationalists, including Jack Tosh. In a remarkably successful 2016/17 season the 1st XV finished 1st in BUCS Scottish 1A as well as winning the BUCS Trophy. Glasgow District was a Scottish amateur rugby union team which now plays as the professional provincial side Glasgow Warriors. Founded in 1872 it was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from the Greater Glasgow area, as well as others from the rest of the west of Scotland; roughly corresponding to the old Strathclyde regional council area. Historically the Glasgow District team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship.
