The Waitresses
The Waitresses were an American new wave band from Akron, Ohio, best known for their singles " I Know What Boys Like" and "Christmas Wrapping." They released two albums, ''Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful?'' and ''Bruiseology'', and two EPs, '' I Could Rule the World If I Could Only Get the Parts'' and ''Make the Weather''. Mars Williams
Mars Williams (born May 29, 1955) is an American jazz and rock saxophonist. Exposed to big band and dixieland jazz by his trumpet-playing father, Williams played classical clarinet for ten years, then migrated to saxophone in his last year of high school, citing the influence of Eric Dolphy, John Coltrane, and Charlie Parker. He attended De Paul University and later the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians where he studied under founders Anthony Braxton and Roscoe Mitchell. In 2004 he was selected by the Moers Festival as their featured artist. Williams is a musician, orchestrator, and arranger who has played with The Waitresses and The Psychedelic Furs. He was only to tour with The Furs in Australia for a month in 1983 as then sax-player Gary Windo was unable to make the trip. Billy Ficca
William Joseph Ficca (born February 15, 1950, in Delaware) is an American drummer who was a founding member of the rock groups Television and The Waitresses. Career Italian origins, Ficca was a childhood friend of Tom Verlaine (aka Tom Miller). Verlaine moved to New York and in 1972 put together The Neon Boys with Richard Hell (Richard Meyers). They recruited Ficca to be their drummer and then, with the addition of second guitarist Richard Lloyd, changed their name to Television. After Television broke up Ficca joined The Waitresses. Ficca also worked with Nona Hendryx & Zero Cool, 40 Families and The Washington Squares. He frequently performed with guitarist/vocalist Tom Verlaine and bassist Richard Hell as well as bassist Clint Bahr. Tracy Ann Wormworth (born December 15, 1958) is an American bass guitarist. Wormworth is a member of the B-52s. She has recorded and toured with the band since the Cosmic Tour of 1990. She played on their sixth studio album, 1992's '' Good Stuff'', and recorded on the band's soundtrack for the 1994 movie "The Flintstones". By 2008, she was listed as an official band member on their album ''Funplex;'' she is featured in the 2011 video recording ''With the Wild Crowd! Live in Athens, GA''. Wormworth's career began as a member of The Waitresses, a New Wave band out of Akron, Ohio. Patricia Jean Donahue (March 29, 1956 – December 9, 1996) was the lead singer of the 1980s new wave group the Waitresses. She is best known for the band’s singles " I Know What Boys Like" and "Christmas Wrapping". Early life Patricia Jean Donahue was born on March 29, 1956, in Akron, Ohio. Her parents divorced when she was two years old. She told an interviewer that her mother raised her to be an independent woman. Like her mother and sister, Donahue attended St. Joseph Academy in Cleveland. She studied at Ohio State University but dropped out for financial reasons. She tried to finish at Cleveland State University but left there too, dissatisfied with the school. She eventually graduated from Kent State University. Christopher Butler (born May 22, 1949) is an American musician, writer, and artist who is best known for leading the 1980s new wave band The Waitresses. His notable songs include " I Know What Boys Like", "No Guilt", "Christmas Wrapping" and the theme song for the TV sitcom ''Square Pegs''. Early life and career Butler, who is of Italian and Hungarian ancestry, grew up in Akron, Moreland Hills, and Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and majored in sociology at Kent State University. He was among a crowd of students fired on by the Ohio National Guard on May 4, 1970, and was a friend of Jeffrey Miller, one of the four students killed by Guardsmen. Tin Huey is an American experimental rock and new wave band from Akron, Ohio, United States, that formed in 1972 and disbanded in 1982. History Original lineups Initially named Rags, the band started with Mark Price (then known as Wesley the Stash) on guitar, Michael Aylward on bass, and Stuart Austin (then known as Napoleon Lemens) on drums. The band renamed themselves after Aylward's younger brother. Harvey Gold became the fourth member to join on organ. Price left the band, and the remaining members switched to acoustic music before hiring electric guitarist Arthur Baranoff and bassist Wayne Swickley.
