I Block
I Blocks () are a design of public housing in Hong Kong. It is mainly divided into three variants: Single I, Double I, and Triple I. Only a few estates currently have I blocks as of today. (1981-1983) Variants The I block can be divided into three variants: ''Single I, Double I, and Triple I''. Etymology The building looks like the letter I. There are three wings - two long and one at the middle. It can be modular by connecting another or two more I blocks. This gave birth of Double I and Triple I. Naming Unlike other blocks, Double I blocks are only given one name. Such examples include Mei Fung House in Mei Lam Estate and Shek To House in Shek Wai Kok Estate. Location The I blocks take up a large amount of space. Therefore, most are found in the new towns of Sha Tin, Kwun Tong, Sham Shui Po, and Tsuen Wan. Sun Tin Wai Estate () is a public housing estate in Tai Wai, New Territories, Hong Kong. It was built on the hill at the south of Chun Shek Estate along Lion Rock Tunnel Road and consists of 8 residential blocks completed in 1981 and 1982. Fung Shing Court () is a Home Ownership Scheme court in Tai Wai, near Sun Tin Wai Estate. It consists of three residential buildings built in 1985. Houses Sun Tin Wai Estate Fung Shing Court Demographics According to the 2016 by-census, Sun Tin Wai Estate had a population of 8,826 while King Tin Court had a population of 5,940. Altogether the population amounts to 14,766. Politics For the 2019 District Council election, the estate fell within two constituencies. Sun Tin Wai Estate is located in the Sun Tin Wai constituency, which was formerly represented by Ching Cheung-ying until July 2021, while Fung Shing Court falls within the Chun Fung constituency, which is currently represented by Chan Nok-hang. Shek Wai Kok Estate () is a public housing estate in Shek Wai Kok, Tsuen Wan, New Territories, Hong Kong, near Shing Mun Valley and Luk Yeung Sun Chuen. It consists of 8 residential buildings completed in 1980 to 1982. History On 28 September 1982, then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Margaret Thatcher visited the estate to contact with the public by residents of the estate. On 14 March 2001, Leung Shing-yan died after being shot by Tsui Po-ko at Flat 552, Shek To House Block B, Shek Wai Kok Estate. The incident caused a sensation in Hong Kong society. Sha Tin
Sha Tin, also spelt Shatin, is a neighbourhood along Shing Mun River in the eastern New Territories, Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Sha Tin District. Sha Tin is one of the neighbourhoods of the Sha Tin New Town project. The new town was founded in 1973 under the New Towns Development Programme of the Hong Kong government. Its current name was named after the nearby village of Sha Tin Wai. The literal English translation is 'Sand Fields'. Sham Shui Po is an area of Kowloon, Hong Kong, situated in the northwestern part of the Kowloon Peninsula, north of Tai Kok Tsui, east of Cheung Sha Wan and south of Shek Kip Mei (). Tsuen Wan
Tsuen Wan (formerly also spelled Tsun Wan) is a town built on a bay in the western New Territories of Hong Kong, opposite of Tsing Yi Island across Rambler Channel. The market town of Tsuen Wan emerged from the surrounding villages and fleets of fishing boats in the area. The now-crowded city is around the present-day Tsuen Wan station of the MTR. Its coastline was further extended through land reclamation. Shun Tin Estate
Shun Tin Estate () is a public housing estate in Shun Lee, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It comprises 11 residential blocks completed in 1981, 1983 and 1989 respectively. History The estate, reportedly the 105th built by the Housing Authority, began admitting tenants in late 1981. Some came from the old Lei Cheng Uk and Kun Tong estates, making way for redevelopments and improvements there. On 21 July 1986, a HK$24.8 contract was awarded to construct a secondary school at Shun Tin Estate. On 10 October 2015, a 58-year-old man was attacked after disputing with a 46-year-old man at Man Shun Restaurant in Tin Kuen House of Shun Tin Estate. He was rushed by an ambulance to United Christian Hospital in unconscious state and was later transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. Public housing estates in Shek Kip Mei are public housing in an area originally known as Shek Kip Mei, Kap Shek Mi in New Kowloon on the North Eastern Kowloon Peninsula of Hong Kong. History Hong Kong's public housing program was initiated by Governor Alexander Grantham following Shek Kip Mei Fire, a major fire on 25 December 1953. The Shek Kip Mei area was the location of tens of thousands of makeshift homes of immigrants from Mainland China. The fire cost many lives, and left 53,000 people homeless.
