Tamil (; ' , ) is a Dravidian language natively spoken by the Tamil people of South Asia. Tamil cinema, also known as Kollywood is a part of Indian Cinema; primarily engaged in production of motion pictures in the Tamil language. Based out of the Kodambakkam neighbourhood in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, it is popularly called ''Kollywood'' - a portmanteau of the words Kodambakkam and Hollywood. The first Tamil silent film, ''Keechaka Vadham'', was directed by R. Nataraja Mudaliar in 1918. Shriya Saran Bhatnagar (; born 11 September 1982) is an Indian actress who works predominantly in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi-language films. ''Rowthiram'' () is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language martial arts film written and directed by newcomer Gokul. Produced by R. B. Choudary, the film stars his son Jiiva and Shriya Saran, with Sentrayan, Jayaprakash and Lakshmi Ramakrishnan appearing in supporting roles. The story line of ''Rowthiram'' is nearly equal to ''Udhayam'' the Tamil dubbed version of Telugu film '' Siva'' starring Nagarjuna Akkineni. It released on 12 August 2011. Upon release, it opened to mixed reviews due to the weak storyline. However, the performances of Jiiva and Shriya received high praise from the critics and audience, alike. Laila (born 24 October 1980) is an Indian actress. She has acted predominantly in Tamil films, as well as few Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi language films. ''Pithamagan'' () is a 2003 Indian Tamil-language crime drama film written and directed by Bala. The film stars Vikram, Suriya, Laila and Sangeetha.
