INS Kadmatt (P29)
INS ''Kadmatt'' (P29) is the second of four anti-submarine warfare corvettes built for the Indian Navy by the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers of Kolkata under Project 28 Anti-Submarine Warfare corvette, Project 28. She was inducted into the Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy. INS ''Kadmatt'' has been named after the Kadmat Island of India's Lakshadweep Islands and carries on the legacy of her predecessor INS Kadmatt (P78), INS Kadmatt (P 78), which served the Navy for 24 years from 23 December 1968 to 30 November 1992. Design and Description The primary role of the INS ''Kadmatt'' is in anti submarine warfare – to protect ships in convoys and ports from enemy submarine attacks. Kadmat Island
Kadmat Island, also known as Cardamom Island, is a coral island belonging to the Amindivi subgroup of islands of the Lakshadweep archipelago in India. Measuring in length, the island has a lagoon with a width of covering an area of . The ecological feature of the island is of coral reef with seagrass, and marine turtles which nestle here. The Ministry of Environment and Forests (India) has notified the island as a marine protected area for ensuring conservation of the island's animal, plant, or other type of organism, and other resources. The only inhabited village on the island is Kadmat, which had a population of 5,389 according to 2011 census. Fisheries is the main economic activity on the island with agriculture limited to 5% of the land area. Rocket Launcher
A rocket launcher is a weapon that launches an unguided, rocket-propelled projectile. INS Kadmatt (P78)
''Arnala'' class was an Indian designation for the Petya III-class vessels of the Indian Navy. Although these vessels were classified as frigates in the Soviet Navy, they were classified by the Indian Navy as anti-submarine corvettes due to their role and smaller size. Vessels of the class were named for Indian islands. Operational history and were part of the task force for Operation Trident during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. Eastern Naval Command
The Eastern Naval Command is one of the three command-level formations of the Indian Navy. It is headquartered in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Project 28 Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette
The ''Kamorta''-class corvettes or Project 28 are a class of anti-submarine warfare stealth corvettes currently in service with the Indian Navy. Built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, they are the first anti-submarine warfare stealth corvettes to be built in India. Project 28 was approved in 2003, with construction of the lead ship, commencing on 12 August 2005.
