IMPACT (British Organisation)
IMPACT is an international initiative which focusses on preventive and social health and promote awareness and intervention to prevent avoidable disability. Founded in 1980s by Sir John Wilson, IMPACT was formed as a part of the UN's ''Decade of disabled people''. The UK IMPACT Foundation (UKIF), which is the central organisation to its sister projects over the world, was formally registered as a charity in 1985. The organisation's international programme was formally set up by the United Nations General Assembly supported by the British government. Although it does not receive any financial assistances from these organisations, it is jointly promoted by the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the UNDP. IMPACT currently has projects focussing on disability prevention, social health, nutritional health, child health as well as disaster relief in some of the least developed nations in Asia and Africa, including countries like Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Nepal, East Africa. Community Health Initiative (CHI)
Impact India Foundation's Community Health Initiative (CHI) covers 1.5 million backward tribals in Maharashtra. CHI aims at the reduction of existing disabilities and incidence of future disabilities through prevention and cure using existing delivery systems and available infrastructure, in partnership with Government, NGOs and local community. CHI has achieved 72% reduction in disability in Thane District, Maharashtra (2005 to 2012), using existing infrastructure and available delivery systems. Lifeline Express
The Lifeline Express, or Jeevan Rekha Express, is a hospital train in India that has been running since 16 July 1991. It was a collaboration between the Impact India Foundation (IIF), Indian Railways (IR) and the Health Ministry. The train is funded by IIF, international charitable sources, Indian corporations and individuals. The train has made a health impact both in India, as well as around the world where it has inspired similar initiatives. Objective The Lifeline Express was started to provide on-the-spot diagnostic, medical and advanced surgical treatment for preventive and curative interventions for disabled adults and children. It is an outreach program for inaccessible rural areas where medical services are not available, traveling via Indian Railways.
