Izola
Izola (; it, Isola ) is a town in southwestern Slovenia on the Adriatic Sea, Adriatic coast of the Slovenian Istria, Istrian peninsula. It is the seat of the Municipality of Izola. Its name originates from Italian language, Italian ''Isola'', which means 'island'. History An Ancient Rome, ancient Roman port and settlement known as Haliaetum stood to the southwest of the present town, next to the village of Jagodje, as early as the 2nd century BC. The town of Izola was established on a small island by refugees from Aquileia in the 7th century. The coastal areas of Istria came under Republic of Venice, Venetian influence in the 9th century. The settlement was first mentioned in writing as ''Insula'' in a Venetian document entitled Liber albus in 932 AD. It became definitely the territory of the Republic of Venice in 1267, and the centuries of Venetian rule left a strong and enduring mark on the region. Izola (appliances)
Izola was one of the most historic brand names in Greek industrial history. The company was founded in 1930 as a manufacturer of metal products (mostly metal tubing) and in 1934 was taken over by Panagiotis Drakos who since 1906 owned a company involved in hydraulic equipment trading. Panagiotis and his son Georgios are connected with the spectacular rise of this company that became a dominant manufacturer of home appliances in Greece after World War II. Izola produced equipment for the Greek military during preparations after the outbreak of World War II, while during the Axis occupation its facilities were used by the occupying powers for vehicle repair and maintenance. It recovered soon after the war and in 1951 it introduced its first electric home appliances. Soon an extended range of products was introduced (kitchen ovens, refrigerators, freezers, heaters, TV sets etc.) and the company became a legendary success story in Greek industrial history. The Municipality of Izola (; sl, Občina Izola, it, Comune di Isola) is a municipality in the traditional region of the Littoral in southwestern Slovenia. The seat of the municipality is the town of Izola. Izola became a municipality in 1994. The municipality of Izola is officially bilingual, with both Slovene and Italian as official languages; however, Slovene ''de facto'' dominates in all aspects, being the sole official language of the government and business. Mladinski nogometni klub Izola ( en, Youth Izola Football Club), commonly referred to as MNK Izola or simply Izola, is a Slovenian football club from Izola which competes in the Slovenian Third League. Izola was established in 1996 after the dissolution of NK Izola, a club which folded following the 1995–96 Slovenian PrvaLiga season due to high financial debt. Nogometni klub Izola ( en, Izola Football Club), commonly referred to as NK Izola or simply Izola, was a Slovenian football club from Izola. They played in the Slovenian top division for five consecutive seasons during the early 1990s. The club was dissolved after the 1995–96 Slovenian PrvaLiga season. History The club was founded in 1923 as ''Club Calcistico Giovanile Isola d'Istria'', when the city of Isola was part of Italy. It was known as ''Ampelea Isola d'Istria'' between 1930 and 1946, and played in Serie C between 1937 and 1946. Italian internationals Giuseppe Grezar, Alberto Eliani and Aredio Gimona played with Ampelea in the 1943–44 season. Due to the occupation of Istria and the Trieste territory by the Yugoslav Army, it was forced to change its name to the more proletarian sounding ''Unione Sportiva Isola'', and finally to ''NK Izola'' in 1951.
