Ixion Bicycle Club
Ixion Bicycle Club was an organization which was incorporated in New York on September 28, 1885. Beginning in 1881 the group held an annual race which started from Peabody House in Yonkers, New York. The event finished at 59th Street (Manhattan) and Western Boulevard in New York City. In 1883 the Ixion Bicycle Club had nine members and its president was B.G. Sandford. Yonkers () is a city in Westchester County, New York, United States. Developed along the Hudson River, it is the third most populous city in the state of New York, after New York City and Buffalo. 59th Street (Manhattan)
59th Street is a crosstown street in the New York City borough of Manhattan, running from York Avenue and Sutton Place on the East Side of Manhattan to the West Side Highway on the West Side. The three-block portion between Columbus Circle and Grand Army Plaza is known as Central Park South, since it forms the southern border of Central Park. The street is mostly continuous, except between Ninth Avenue/ Columbus Avenue and Columbus Circle, where the Time Warner Center is located. Serge (fabric)
Serge is a type of twill textile, fabric that has diagonal lines or ridges on both sides, made with a two-up, two-down weaving, weave. The worsted variety is used in making military uniforms, suit (clothes), suits, great coats and trench coats. Its counterpart, silk serge, is used for linings. French serge is a softer, finer variety. The word is also used for a high-quality woven woolen fabric. The written history of New York City began with the first European explorer, the Italian Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. European settlement began with the Dutch in 1608.
