Iván Marino Ospina
Iván Marino Ospina (called by his colleagues "Ivan the Terrible") (1940 – August 28, 1985) was a Colombian guerrilla and co-founder of the revolutionary group 19th of April Movement (M-19). Early life Not much is known of Marino's early life. He was born in Valle del Cauca and studied at an official college. Early career as a revolutionary Ospina was convinced that the revolution in Colombia had to become violent to be successful. He then fought with the guerrillas in Venezuela. In 1970 he returned to Colombia to establish M-19 along with Jaime Bateman Cayón, a friend from the group Communist Youth (Juventudes Comunistas, JUCO), who had recently been expelled from the FARC. Ospina became the second in command of M-19. A few days after this promotion, Ospina was arrested in Cali and sent to Bogotá where he was tortured in the notorious "Sacromonte caves" to the point that he made a suicide attempt. Roldanillo
Roldanillo is a town and municipality located in the Department of Valle del Cauca, Colombia. It is also a tourist hotspot and known as Colombia's flying capital. It has hosted a range of international competitions, including the paragliding world cup superfinals. Roldanillo is the birthplace of Omar Rayo Reyes (January 20, 1928 – June 7, 2010). He was a renowned Colombian painter, sculptor, caricaturist and plastic artist. He won the 1970 Salón de Artistas Colombianos. Rayo worked with abstract geometry primarily employing black, white, red and yellow. He was part of the Op Art movement. Rayo's work shows that geometric art is as much a part of the past as it is of the future. He used traces of the past to discover new ways to present visual and geometric sketches. Palace Of Justice Siege
The Palace of Justice siege was a 1985 attack on the Supreme Court of Colombia, in which members of the leftist M-19 guerrilla group took over the Palace of Justice in Bogotá and held the Supreme Court hostage, intending to hold a trial against President Belisario Betancur. The guerrilla group called themselves the " Iván Marino Ospina Company" after an M-19 commander who had been killed by the Colombian military on 28 August 1985. Antonio José Navarro Wolff (born 9 July 1948) is an engineer, a former combatant and a Colombian politician. Navarro used to be a former Commandant and leader of the 19th of April Movement (M-19), a former guerrilla movement that operated in Colombia in the 1970s and 1980s. After the demobilization through a peace agreement of the M-19, Navarro and others formed the M-19 Democratic Alliance, a political party of which Navarro became a leader of entering mainstream politics in Colombia. Álvaro Fayad Delgado "The Turk" (in Spanish, ''el Turco'') was a Colombian guerrilla, co-founder and leader of the 19th of April movement (M-19), founded in 1970. Early life Fayad was born in Ulloa Valley on July 24, 1946 and grew up in Cartago, Valle del Cauca. He obtained his high school diploma from the Seminary of Santa Rosa and entered the National University of Colombia in 1965 to study psychology. There he met fellow militant Camilo Torres Restrepo.
