They date between 1873 and 1931 and reflect Ivyland's development as a planned railroad suburb. The majority of the residential buildings are 2 1/2-story, frame structures with gable roofs, front porches, and irregular plans. It is known for one of the finest collections of Victorian buildings in the state, most of which is registered with the National Register of Historic Places. Victorian architecture is a series of architectural revival styles in the mid-to-late 19th century. ''Victorian'' refers to the reign of Queen Victoria (1837–1901), called the Victorian era, during which period the styles known as Victorian were used in construction.
