Ivory Classics
Ivory Classics is an American classical music record label governed by the Ivory Classics Foundation. The purpose of this foundation, which was established in 1998, is to promote, through charitable and benevolent activities, an appreciation for the art of the piano through its work with the premier audiophile piano label. Earl Wild
Earl Wild (November 26, 1915January 23, 2010) was an American pianist known for his transcriptions of jazz and classical music. Biography Royland Earl Wild was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1915. Wild was a musically precocious child and studied under Selmar Janson at the Carnegie Institute of Technology there, and later with Marguerite Long, Egon Petri, and Helene Barere (the wife of Simon Barere), among others. As a teenager, he started making transcriptions of romantic music and composition. In 1931, he was invited to play at the White House by President Herbert Hoover. The next five presidents (Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson), also invited him to play for them, and Wild remains the only pianist to have played for six consecutive presidents. Shura Cherkassky
Shura Cherkassky (russian: Александр (Шура) Исаакович Черкасский; 7 October 190927 December 1995) was a Ukrainian-American concert pianist known for his performances of the romanticism, romantic repertoire. His playing was characterized by a virtuoso technique and singing piano tone. For much of his later life, Cherkassky resided in London. Early years Alexander Isaakovich Cherkassky (Shura is a diminutive form of Alexander) was born in Odessa (then part of the Russian Empire) in 1909. Cherkassky's family fled to the United States to escape the Russian Revolution of 1917, Russian Revolution. His family was Jewish. Ann Schein Carlyss is an American pianist. Life and career Schein spent her early years in Evanston, Illinois, but she moved to Washington D.C. when she was 4. At age 5, she began her piano training with Glenn and Bessie Gunn. She went on to study at the Peabody Conservatory under the direction of Mieczyslaw Munz. She attended the Holton-Arms School. Eric Himy is an American-born (August 16, 1958) classical pianist of French-Spanish-Moroccan descent. Life Born in Brooklyn, NY, (August 16, 1958), Himy began piano studies at age six, giving his first concert at age 10. By age 7, he was accepted by master teacher Robert Vetlesen. At 12, he began his studies with Charles Crowder at the Preparatory Department of Music at American University. By age 15, Himy was guest soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and at 19 he made his National Symphony Orchestra debut under Hugh Wolf Education Himy studied music at the University of Maryland with Thomas Schumacher. Moura Lympany
Dame Moura Lympany DBE (18 August 191628 March 2005) was an English concert pianist. Biography She was born as Mary Gertrude Johnstone at Saltash, Cornwall. Her father was an army officer who had served in World War I and her mother originally taught her the piano. Mary was sent to a convent school in Belgium, where her musical talent was encouraged, and she went on to study at Liège, later winning a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London. She was made a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music (FRAM) in 1948. After auditioning for the conductor Basil Cameron, she made her concert debut with him at Harrogate in 1929, aged twelve, playing the G minor Concerto of Mendelssohn, the only concerto she had memorised up to that point. Igor Lovchinsky (russian: Игорь Ловчинский) is a Russian-American classical pianist. Performing and recording career Born in Kazan, Russia, Lovchinsky studied at the Kazan Special Music School for Gifted Children. After immigrating to the United States, he continued his studies with Nina Polonsky and Steven Glaser. In 2003, Lovchinsky entered the Juilliard School in New York on full scholarship, where he studied under Jerome Lowenthal. He received his Bachelor's degree from Juilliard in 2007 and his Master's degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston in 2009.
