Ivančena
Ivančena is a stone cairn erected as a memorial for five Scouts, members of the , who were executed in April 1945 in Cieszyn, modern-day Poland, for their part in the Czech resistance to Nazi occupation during World War II. The monument is located on Lysá hora, a mountain in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids in the Czech Republic. Annually near Saint George's Day (23 April), Czech Scouts make a pilgrimage to the site. Background The name ''Ivančena'' comes from the original owner of the place, Ivanka, and the cairn stands approximately about tall and long. During the time of communism, scouts, trampers, and others hiked to it while Scouting was illegal. The hikes were monitored by the then Czechoslovak communist secret police. Lysá Hora
Lysá hora (; ; ; ) is the highest mountain of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids range in the Czech Republic and also of the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. It is one of the rainiest places of the country with an annual precipitation of over . It is the 26th highest mountain in the country. Junák – český skaut (''Junák – Czech Scouting''), is the internationally recognized organization of Scouts and Guides of the Czech Republic. Founded in 1911, Junák – český skaut is the largest organisation of children and youth in the nation, with a membership of 73,315 (as of 2022). Czech Resistance To Nazi Occupation
Czechoslovak resistance to the German occupation of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia during World War II began after the occupation of the rest of Czechoslovakia and the formation of the protectorate on 15 March 1939. German policy deterred acts of resistance and annihilated organizations of resistance. In the early days of the war, the Czech population participated in boycotts of public transport and large-scale demonstrations. Later on, armed communist partisan groups participated in sabotage and skirmishes with German police forces. The most well-known act of resistance was the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich. Resistance culminated in the so-called Prague uprising of May 1945; with Allied armies approaching, about 30,000 Czechs seized weapons. Beskids
The Beskids or Beskid Mountains (, , , (), ()) are a series of mountain ranges in the Carpathians, stretching from the Czech Republic in the west along the border of Poland with Slovakia up to Ukraine in the east. The highest mountain in the Beskids is Hoverla, at . Etymology The origin of the name has not been conclusively established. A Thracian or Illyrian origin has been suggested; however, as yet, no theory has majority support among linguists.
