Ivan Messmer
Ivan Charles Messmer (July 23, 1931 – March 8, 2015) was a Canadian politician, who represented the riding of Boundary-Similkameen in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1986 to 1991 as a member of the Social Credit Party. He held several roles in the Executive Council of British Columbia during his term as an MLA, including Minister of Parks and Solicitor General of British Columbia. He served alongside Jim Hewitt, and later Bill Barlee, in a multiple-member district. Following riding redistribution for the 1991 general election, Messmer ran in the new district of Okanagan-Penticton, but was defeated by Jim Beattie. Barrhead, Alberta
Barrhead is a town in central Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by the County of Barrhead No. 11. It is located along the Paddle River and at the intersection of Alberta Highway 33, Highway 33 (Grizzly Trail) and Alberta Highway 18, Highway 18, approximately northwest of the City of Edmonton. It is also located along the route of the York Factory Express, Express Trail, used by the North West Company, which was originally a First Nations trail. The trail was later widened by George Simpson and John Rowand to save the North West Company over $5,000. The town was named after the Scottish town Barrhead, the birthplace of one of the children of the area's early settlers, James McGuire. Barrhead's official bird is the great blue heron. The 1991 British Columbia general election was the 35th provincial election in the Province of British Columbia, Canada. It was held to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. The election was called on September 19, 1991, and held on October 17, 1991. The incumbent Social Credit Party of British Columbia, which had been beset by scandals during Bill Vander Zalm's only term as premier, was defeated by the New Democratic Party of Mike Harcourt. Liberal Party leader Gordon Wilson surprised observers by leading his party to winning one-third of the votes cast, and forming the official opposition in the legislature.
