Itô's Lemma
In mathematics, Itô's lemma or Itô's formula (also called the Itô-Doeblin formula, especially in French literature) is an identity used in Itô calculus to find the differential of a time-dependent function of a stochastic process. It serves as the stochastic calculus counterpart of the chain rule. It can be heuristically derived by forming the Taylor series expansion of the function up to its second derivatives and retaining terms up to first order in the time increment and second order in the Wiener process increment. The lemma is widely employed in mathematical finance, and its best known application is in the derivation of the Black–Scholes equation for option values. Motivation Suppose we are given the stochastic differential equation dX_t = \mu_t\ dt + \sigma_t\ dB_t, where is a Wiener process and the functions \mu_t, \sigma_t are deterministic (not stochastic) functions of time. In general, it's not possible to write a solution X_t directly in terms of B_t. Howeve ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Itoh–Tsujii Inversion Algorithm
The Itoh–Tsujii inversion algorithm is used to invert elements in a finite field. It was introduced in 1988, first over GF(2''m'') using the normal basis representation of elements, however, the algorithm is generic and can be used for other bases, such as the polynomial basis. It can also be used in any finite field GF(''p''''m''). The algorithm is as follows: : Input: ''A'' ∈ GF(''p''''m'') : Output: ''A''−1 :# ''r'' ← (''p''''m'' − 1)/(''p'' − 1) :# compute ''A''''r'' − 1 in GF(''p''''m'') :# compute ''A''''r'' = ''A''''r'' − 1 · ''A'' :# compute (''A''''r'')−1 in GF(''p'') :# compute ''A''−1 = (''A''''r'')−1 · ''A''''r'' −1 :# return ''A''−1 This algorithm is fast because steps 3 and 5 both involve operations in the subfield GF(''p''). Similarly, if a small value of ''p'' is used, a lookup table can be used for inversion in step 4. The majority of time spent in this algorithm is in step 2, the first expone ... Itô Calculus
Itô calculus, named after Kiyosi Itô, extends the methods of calculus to stochastic processes such as Brownian motion (see Wiener process). It has important applications in mathematical finance and stochastic differential equations. The central concept is the Itô stochastic integral, a stochastic generalization of the Riemann–Stieltjes integral in analysis. The integrands and the integrators are now stochastic processes: :Y_t=\int_0^t H_s\,dX_s, where ''H'' is a locally square-integrable process adapted to the filtration generated by ''X'' , which is a Brownian motion or, more generally, a semimartingale. The result of the integration is then another stochastic process. Concretely, the integral from 0 to any particular ''t'' is a random variable, defined as a limit of a certain sequence of random variables. The paths of Brownian motion fail to satisfy the requirements to be able to apply the standard techniques of calculus. So with the integrand a stochastic process, the Itô ...
