''Itea'' is a genus of about 10 species of shrubs and small trees, commonly called sweetspires. The leaves are alternate. Flowers are small, with 5 sepals and 5 petals, borne in racemes or spikes. The genus is native to eastern Asia, with one deciduous species from eastern North America. Some species are grown in ornamental gardens for their long pendant and fragrant flower heads. These include the evergreen ''I. ilicifolia'' and ''I. yunnanensis'' from central and western China. A different, more upright growing characteristic can be found in the deciduous '' I. virginica'' of eastern North America. ''Itea ilicifolia'', the holly-leaved sweet spire, is a species of flowering plant in the family Iteaceae, native to western China. It is an evergreen shrub growing to tall by broad, with glossy holly-like leaves and fragrant drooping racemes of greenish-white flowers, long, in summer and autumn. It is hardy, though young plants require protection from dry winds. ''Itea virginica'', commonly known as Virginia willow or Virginia sweetspire, is a small North American flowering shrub that grows in low-lying woods and wetland margins. Virginia willow is a member of the Iteaceae family, and native to the southeast United States. ''Itea virginica'' has small flowers on pendulous racemes. Depending on location, the species will bloom in late spring to early summer. It prefers moist rich soil, but it can tolerate a wide range of soil types. When Virginia willow is used in horticulture it can form large colonies and may form dense root suckers, making the shrub hard to remove. Itea ( el, Ιτέα meaning willow), is a town and a former municipality in the southeastern part of Phocis, Greece. Since 2011 local government reforms made Iteas a municipal unit of the municipality of Delphi (modern town), Delphi. Administrative division The municipal unit Itea consists of the communities Itea, Kirra, Phocis, Kirra and Tritaia. Geography Itea is situated on the north coast of the Gulf of Iteas named after it, a northward projection of the Gulf of Corinth. Itea is west of Kirra, southwest of Delphi, south of Amfissa and east of Naupactus. Itea, Florina
Itea ( el, Ιτέα, before 1926: Βύρμπενη - ''Vyrmpeni''; mk, Врбени, translit=Vrbeni; bg, Върбени or Долно Върбени, translit=Varbeni or ), is a village and a community of the Florina municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was a part of the municipality of Meliti, of which it was a municipal district. The 2011 census recorded 542 residents in the village.
