Italy competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7 September to 18 September 2016. The first places the team qualified were for three athletes in sailing events. Martina Caironi has been chosen to carry the nation's flag at the opening ceremony. Medallists Archery Italy qualified seven archers for the Rio Games following their performance at the 2015 World Archery Para Championships. This included four spots in the compound open, 3 for men and 1 for a woman, 2 spots in the recurve open with 1 for a man and 1 for a woman, and 1 spot for a man in the W1 event. Wheelchair Fencing At The 2016 Summer Paralympics
Wheelchair fencing at the 2016 Summer Paralympics was held in Rio from 4 September to 8 September 2016. Classification Fencers are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows fencers to compete against others with a similar level of function. Fencing has two ability classes, A and B, two genders and three weapons, epee, foil and sabre. Wheelchairs were anchored to the ground during competition. Arjola Trimi (born 15 March 1987) is an Italian Paralympic swimmer competing in S4 classification events. She competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, and 2020 Summer Paralympics, in Women's 4 × 50 mixed freestyle relay, winning a silver medal. She made her major international debut at the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships in Montreal, where she won four medals. A year later she became European champion in her classification in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle events. Paratriathlon At The 2016 Summer Paralympics
The paratriathlon competitions at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 10–12 September 2016 at Fort Copacabana. Sixty athletes competed across two genders, and six events. This was the first Paralympic Games to feature paratriathlon, one of two new sports (along with paracanoe) added to the schedule for 2016.
