Italy At The 2011 World Championships In Athletics
Italy competed at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics from August 27 to September 4 in Daegu, South Korea. Medalists Finalists Italy national athletics team ranked 17th (with 7 finalists) in the ''IAAF placing table''. Rank obtained by assigning eight points in the first place and so on to the eight finalists. Advanced after Russian doping scandal, Elisa Rigaudo (from 4th to 2nd), Alex Schwazer (from 9th to 7th) and Silvia Salis (from 9th to 8th). Antonietta Di Martino
Antonietta Di Martino (born 1 June 1978) is a retired Italian high jumper. She currently holds the Italian national women's high jump record at 2.03 metres for outdoor events and 2.04 metres for indoor events. She also currently holds the women's all-time highest jump-differential, meaning she has jumped the highest (0.35 metres) more than her own height. Her first significant international achievement was winning silver medal at the 2007 European Indoor Championships in Birmingham. In the same year, she won the silver medal at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. After a disappointing Olympics in Beijing, she won her first gold medal at the European Indoor Championships in 2011 in Paris and the bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu. Reigning champion Blanka Vlašić had spent the 2007 and 2008 seasons largely unbeaten, but high-profile losses in the Olympic high jump final and the 2008 IAAF Golden League final spelled the end for her lengthy winning streak. Valeriy Viktorovich Borchin (russian: Вале́рий Ви́кторович Бо́рчин; born 11 September 1986) is a race walker from Russia who won the 2008 Olympic gold medal and was World champion over the 20 km distance. His World Championship was retroactively stripped in 2015 due to doping. Biography He was born in the village of Povadimovo near Saransk in what is now the Republic of Mordovia. After trying out weightlifting and long-distance running in his youth, he began practising racewalking at the age of seventeen after a knee injury. He met Viktor Chegin, a prominent Olympic-level coach in the region, in 2004 and began practising with his training group. Giorgio Rubino (born 15 April 1986 in Rome) is an Italian race walker, bronze medal in the 20 km walk at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. Biography The medals of some of the athletics world championship races in 2009 were otherwise awarded 24 March 2016 as a result of doping disqualifications.
