Italy competed at the 2018 European Athletics Championships in Berlin, Germany, from 6 to 12 August 2018. Medals Finalists Italy national athletics team ranked 14th in the '' EAA placing table''. The 2018 European Marathon Cup was the 11th edition of the European Marathon Cup of athletics and were held in Berlin, Germany on 12 August, inside of the 2018 European Championships. The total time is calculated on the sum of the times of the first three athletes arrived at the finish line, but the medals are awarded to all the athletes who have concluded the race. Giovanna Epis
Giovanna Epis (born 11 October 1988) is an Italian long-distance runner. Biography She competed at the 2018 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. She was bronze medal with the Italian team at the 2019 European 10,000m Cup in London. In 2019, she competed in the women's marathon at the 2019 World Athletics Championships held in Doha, Qatar. She did not finish her race. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Marathon. On 7 April 2019, setting her personal best in the Rotterdam Marathon with a time of 2:29:11, she achieved the entry standard for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which was set at 2:29:30. Valeria Straneo
Valeria Straneo (born 5 April 1976) is an Italian long-distance runner, winner of the silver medal at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics and Italian record holder in the marathon. She won the Stramilano in 2011 and bettered the half marathon Italian record at the Roma-Ostia Half Marathon in 2012, although it was not ratified as the course doesn't meet Fidal criteria. Biography Born in Alessandria, it was only after the removal of her spleen, in 2010, that she began to reach a national standard of running. At 35 years old, she ranked eighth in the 2011 Berlin Marathon with a time of 2:26:33 hours. This met the qualifying standard for the 2012 Olympic Games, but three other athletes had run faster than her ( Anna Incerti, Rosaria Console and Nadia Ejjafini). Daniele Meucci
Daniele Meucci (born 7 October 1985) is an Italian athlete who specialises in long-distance running, including track running, cross country and road running who won twenty medals at international level (seventeen at senior level and three at youth level). He represented Italy at the 2012 Summer Olympics, running in the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres. Meucci is a three-time medallist in the latter event at the European Athletics Championships, having won bronze in 2010 and 2016 and silver in 2012. He was also a bronze medallist at the European Cross Country Championships in 2012. Race Walk
Racewalking, or race walking, is a long-distance discipline within the sport of athletics. Although a foot race, it is different from running in that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times. Race judges carefully assess that this is maintained throughout the race. Typically held on either roads or running tracks, common distances range from up to 100 kilometres (62.1 mi). There are two racewalking distances contested at the Summer Olympics: the 20 kilometres race walk (men and women) and 50 kilometres race walk (men only). Both are held as road events. Marathon
The marathon is a long-distance foot race with a distance of , usually run as a road race, but the distance can be covered on trail routes. The marathon can be completed by running or with a run/walk strategy. There are also wheelchair divisions. Elio Locatelli (15 April 1943 – 27 November 2019) was an Italian speed skater and a technic commissioner (exactly ''direttore tecnico dell'alto livello'' in Italian language) of the Italy national athletics team. Biography Before becoming a sports manager, in his sports career, he participated at two editions of the Winter Olympics. He had been in charge of the women's sector from 1987 to 1988 and was the only manager (men and women) from 1989 to 1994.
