Athletics At The 2008 Summer Paralympics
Athletics at the 2008 Summer Paralympics were held in Beijing National Stadium from September 8 to September 17. There were 160 gold medals in this sport. Classification Athletes are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows athletes to compete against others with a similar level of function. The athletics classifications are: * 11–13: Blind athletes * 32–38: Athletes with cerebral palsy * 40: Les Autres (others) (including people with dwarfism) * 42–46: Amputees * 51–58: Athletes with a spinal cord disability The class numbers are given prefixes of "T", "F" and "P" for track, field and pentathlon events, respectively. Oscar De Pellegrin
Oscar De Pellegrin (born 17 May 1963) is an Italian Paralympic archer and former Paralympic sports shooter. At the 2022 Italian local elections, he has been elected mayor of Belluno. Biography His disability is due to a tractor accident at the family farm. He began in sport in 1990 due to a friend. He has been one of the main athletes of the "Nazionale Sport Disabili" (Disabled Italian National Team) for archery, and shooting. In the two sports he achieved 70 Italian titles, 11 Italian records and 4 world records. Table Tennis At The 2008 Summer Paralympics
Table tennis at the 2008 Summer Paralympics was held in the Peking University Gymnasium from September 7 to September 15. Classification Players are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows players to compete against others with a similar level of function. Table tennis has ten numbered classes, with lower numbers corresponding to more severe disability. Classes one through five compete in wheelchairs and classes six through ten compete while standing. Events Twenty-four events were contested. The events are men's and women's team and individual competitions for the various disability classifications.
