It Was I
"It Was I" is a 1959 song written by vocalist Gary S. Paxton when he released it as part of a duo with Clyde Battin called Skip & Flip. "It Was I" reached No. 11 The song was ranked No. 84 on ''Billboard'' magazine's '' Top Hot 100'' songs of 1959. Lindsey Buckingham recording The song was later covered by American guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham, and was released as the second single off his debut album, ''Law and Order''. Unlike Buckingham's previous single "Trouble", "It Was I" was not a big hit for Buckingham, and also failed to match the success of the original Skip & Flip recording. The song only reached No. 10 on the ''Billboard'' Bubbling Under chart, an extension to the Hot 100. "It Was I" fared slightly better in Australia, where it managed to reach the No. 74 spot. Skip & Flip
Skip & Flip was a U.S. pop duo, consisting of Skip ( Clyde Battin) and Flip (Gary S. Paxton). They met while attending the University of Arizona in the late 1950s. Career Once known as The Rockabillies, they recorded on Rev Records as The Pledges and then as Gary & Clyde. Time Records picked up their Rev Records master "Why Not Confess"/"Johnny Risk" and then moved them to its Brent Records label, under the name Skip and Flip. Their recording of Paxton's song "It Was I" entered the U.S. Top 20 in 1959, peaking at No. 11, and the follow-up, "Fancy Nancy", charted at No. 71. Their next release, a revival of Marvin And Johnny's R&B hit single, "Cherry Pie", also made No. 11 but proved to be the last chart entry they recorded together. Paxton went on to record for several labels using several names, including the Hollywood Argyles, with which he topped the charts in 1960 with the novelty song "Alley-Oop". The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, ''Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top-40 Singles from 1966, and Album charts from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. David Kent later published Australian charts from 1940 to 1973 in a retrospective fashion, using state by state chart data obtained from various Australian radio stations. "Go Insane" is the title track of Lindsey Buckingham's second solo album. Released as a single in July 1984, it became Buckingham's second top 40 hit (after "Trouble", three years earlier). "Trouble" is the debut solo single by Lindsey Buckingham, released in 1981 from his debut solo album ''Law and Order''. The single was Buckingham's first hit as a solo artist, peaking at number nine in the US and number 31 in the UK, where it remained charted for seven weeks. In Australia, it topped the chart for three weeks and became the eighth biggest-selling single of 1982.
