''It Hurts to Be in Love'' is the fourth studio album from American singer and songwriter Dan Hartman, released by Blue Sky in 1981. It was produced by Hartman and mixed by Neil Dorfsman. Background After the success of Hartman's two disco-oriented albums '' Instant Replay'' (1978) and '' Relight My Fire'' (1979), Hartman changed musical direction with ''It Hurts to Be in Love''. Returning to the sound of his 1976 album ''Images'', the album moved away from disco to a more melodic pop-rock sound. The album was recorded at the Schoolhouse (Hartman's own home studio in Connecticut), mixed at Power Station and mastered at Sterling Sound. ''It Hurts to Be in Love'' failed to make a chart appearance in the US, although the three singles from it saw some chart action. The first, " Heaven in Your Arms", reached No. 86 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Daniel Earl Hartman (December 8, 1950 – March 22, 1994) was an American rock musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. Among songs he wrote and recorded were " Free Ride" as a member of the Edgar Winter Group, and the solo hits "Relight My Fire", "Instant Replay", "I Can Dream About You", "We Are the Young" and " Second Nature". "I Can Dream About You", his most successful song, reached No. 6 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in 1984 and No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart in 1985. Stephen Neal Paul (April 28, 1941 October 21, 2012) was an American talent manager and nightclub owner. Paul was the one-time manager of Johnny Winter, among other related performers, as well as being the owner of The Scene, a popular New York City club from 1964 to 1970, and the founder of Blue Sky Records. Power Station at BerkleeNYC, formerly known as Avatar Studios (1996–2017) and Power Station, is a recording studio at 441 West 53rd Street between Ninth and Tenth avenues in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood in Manhattan, New York City.
