Issa Aremu
Issa Obalowu Aremu (born January 8, 1961) is a Nigerian trade union activist and labor leader. He is the general secretary of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NVTGTWN) and vice president of the IndustriALL Global Union. Comrade Issa Aremu is a member of the executive council of the Nigerian Labour Congress, and served as the vice president of the congress during the tenure of Adams Oshiomole. Career Aremu attended the Ilorin Primary School and completed his secondary school education at the Ilorin Grammar School, Oko erin, Garin Alimi, Ilorin, Kwara State. Aremu graduated with B.sc Honors in Economics at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers state in 1985. National Union Of Textile, Garment And Tailoring Workers Of Nigeria
The National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) is a trade union representing workers in various related industries in Nigeria. History The union was established in 1977, when the Nigerian government restructured trade unions on an industrial basis. 34 unions merged into the NUTGTWN, including the KTL African Workers' Union and the Ikeja Textile Workers' Union. In 1978, it was a founding affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress. In 1988, the union had 41,312 members, which fell to 30,000 by 2005, reflecting the decline in employment in the industry. Members were concentrated in Lagos, Kano and Kaduna. However, by 2016, membership had grown to 35,000, with about 15,000 being self-employed tailors. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is an umbrella organization for trade unions in Nigeria. History The Nigerian Labour Congress was founded in December 1978, as a merger of four different organisations: the Nigeria Trade Union Congress (NTUC), Labour Unity Front (LUF), United Labour Congress (ULC) and Nigeria Workers' Council (NWC). However, the recently-established Federal Military Government, led by Murtala Mohammed, refused to recognise the new organisation, and instead set up the Adebiyi Tribunal to investigate the activities of trade unions and their leaders. The Tribunal reported in 1976 and claimed that all the existing trade union centres propagated Cold War ideologies, depended on funding from international union federations, and mismanaged funds. Adams Oshiomole
Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole (born 4 April 1952), is a Nigerian politician and the former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress. He had previously served as the President of Nigeria Labour Congress from 1999 to 2007 and the executive governor of Edo State, Nigeria from 2008 to 2016. As APC National Chairman, he was suspended from office by the Abuja Court of Appeal on 16 June 2020. Background Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole was born on 4 April 1952 at Iyamho, near Auchi in Edo State. The National Labor College was a college for union members and their families, union leaders and union staff in Silver Spring, Maryland. Established as a training center by the AFL–CIO in 1969 to strengthen union member education and organizing skills, NLC became a degree-granting college in 1997 and in March 2004 gained accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
