Israel competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7 to 18 September 2016. They are scheduled to compete in sailing, cycling, shooting, and rowing. Disability classifications Every participant at the Paralympics has their disability grouped into one of five disability categories; amputation, the condition may be congenital or sustained through injury or illness; cerebral palsy; wheelchair athletes, there is often overlap between this and other categories; visual impairment, including blindness; Les autres, any physical disability that does not fall strictly under one of the other categories, for example dwarfism or multiple sclerosis. Swimming At The 2016 Summer Paralympics
Swimming at the 2016 Paralympic Games was held from 8 to 17 September 2016 at Rio Olympic Aquatics Stadium. The competition consisted of 152 events, across multiple classifications, and all swum in a long course (50-metre) pool. Up to 600 swimmers (340 males, 260 females) competed in the Games. With 152 events, swimming came second only to athletics as the largest sport at the 2016 Games. Boccia ( ) is a precision ball sport, similar to bocce, and related to bowls and pétanque. The name "boccia" is derived from the Latin word for "boss" – '. The sport is contested at local, national and international levels, by athletes with severe physical disabilities. It was originally designed to be played by people with cerebral palsy but now includes athletes with other severe disabilities affecting motor skills. In 1984, it became a Paralympic sport and as of 2020, 75 boccia national organizations have joined one or more of the international organizations. Inbal Pezaro ( he, ענבל פיזרו, born 26 March 1987) is an Israeli Paralympic swimmer. Biography Pezaro was born on Kibbutz Yizre'el. At birth she suffered from a complex with blood vessels at her spinal cord, which caused her to become paralyzed in her lower limbs. At the age of five she began practicing sports at the ILAN center in Haifa, progressing to compete in national championships only six years later. Swimming career From the age of 12 Pezaro had been competing in international swimming competitions. Following her exemption from military service with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), she volunteered to service and was certified as a swimming instructor. She took part at the 2004 Summer Paralympics and the 2008 Summer Paralympics. Shooting at the 2016 Summer Paralympics consisted of twelve events, eight for rifle and 4 for pistol, across a range of men's, women's and mixed events. Paralympic shooters were also classified according to the extent of their disability. The classification system allows shooters to compete against others with a similar level of function. Shooting classifications are: *SH1 - competitors who do not need a shooting stand *SH2 - competitors who use a shooting stand to support the firearm's weight Qualification There were 140 athletes (100 male, 40 female) taking part in this sport. Doron Shaziri
Doron Shaziri ( he, דורון שזירי; born 21 February 1967) is an Israeli Paralympic shooter. Early life In 1987, Shaziri was working as an Israel Defense Forces recruit while patrolling Israeli-Lebanon border where he tried to rescue his comrades but was hit by a mine. After the incident, he went to a military hospital where he was given a prosthetic leg. In 1994, he realized that he is a good engineer and even set up his own business where he was busy constructing wheelchairs for injured vets.
