Israel At The 1992 Summer Olympics
Israel competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. 30 competitors, 25 men and 5 women, took part in 42 events in 10 sports. Israel won its first ever Olympic medals at these Games. The first medallist in Israel's history was Yael Arad, who won silver on July 30 in judo's under-61 kg category for women, and she was followed a day later by another judoka, Oren Smadja, who won bronze in men's under-71 kg category. The Olympic Committee of Israel (Hebrew: הוועד האולימפי בישראל) is the recognized National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Israel, and the governing body of Olympic sports in Israel. The OCI's headquarters is located at the National Sport Center – Tel Aviv. History In 1933 the Palestine National Olympic Committee was officially formed, and was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in May 1934, despite never competing. Although this committee represented Jews, Christians and Muslims living in Mandatory Palestine, its rules stated that they "represent dthe Jewish National Home." Chung Hoon
Chung Hoon (born April 29, 1969 in Buan County, Jeollabuk-do) is a South Korean judoka. Chung was the World Champion at 71 kg in 1993. He won a bronze medal in the 1991 World Championships. Chung represented South Korea in the 1992 Olympic Games, winning bronze in the Lightweight division. In the semifinal, he lost to Hungarian Bertalan Hajtós. Next year, Chung went up against the Hungarian judoka again in the final at the World Championship and avenged the loss by decision. Chung retired from competitive judo after winning his second Asian Game gold medal in 1994. William Scott Cusack (born 23 May 1966) is a Scottish judoka who represented Great Britain in the Olympics. Early and personal life Cusack was born in Glasgow, Great Britain.
