Isola (Milan Metro)
Isola is a station on Line 5 of the Milan Metro. It takes its name from the Isola (island) district of Milan in which it is located, its name derived from the neighbourhood's position cut off from the city centre by the main railway. History The works for the construction of the first section of Line 5, which includes Isola station, began in September 2007, and it was opened on 1 March 2014 as part of the extension to Garibaldi FS. Station structure Isola is an underground station with two tracks in one tunnel and, like all the other stations on Line 5, is wheelchair accessible. Line 5 is an underground rapid transit line in Milan, Italy, part of the Milan Metro. The line, also known as M5 or the Purple Line (''Linea Viola'' in Italian), is long and goes through the city from the north to the north-west. It opened in stages between 2013 and 2015. The Volturno (ancient Latin name Volturnus, from ''volvere'', to roll) is a river in south-central Italy. Geography It rises in the Abruzzese central Apennines of Samnium near Castel San Vincenzo (province of Isernia, Molise) and flows southeast as far as its junction with the Calore Irpino near Caiazzo and runs south as far as Venafro, and then turns southwest, past Capua, to enter the Tyrrhenian Sea in Castel Volturno, northwest of Naples.
