The 2013 Arab Athletics Championships was the eighteenth edition of the international athletics competition between Arab countries that took place in Doha, Qatar from 21–24 May 2013. Syria was excluded from the event because of the ongoing civil war and Libya did not send a team. Morocco topped the medals table with eleven gold medals in its total of 22, which it won mainly in the women's section of the competition. Algeria placed second with eight golds among its 19 medals. Bahrain had the greatest medal count overall with 22, and ranked third as it only claimed five golds. Egypt, Qatar and Tunisia each took four gold medals at the competition. Arab Athletics Championships
The Arab Athletics Championships is an event organized by the Arab Athletic Association. It traditionally occurred every two years. It was not held in 1985 due to the schedule clash with the Pan Arab Games. However, due to the erratic scheduling of the games, both the athletics championships and games athletics competition have been held in the same year on several occasions since 1997. Typically, the championships is rescheduled to earlier in the year as a result. Women's events have been present on the programme since the second edition in 1979. The programme is usually combined although the women competed separately from the men for the tenth edition of the tournament, which was split between 1997 and 1998. At the 2007 Pan Arab Games, the athletics events were held at the Military Academy Stadium in Cairo, Egypt from 21 to 24 November. A total of 46 events were contested, of which 23 by male and 23 by female athletes. Morocco was the most successful nation in the competition, taking ten gold medals in a 23-medal haul. Sudan and Tunisia won the second and third greatest number of golds with 8 and 7. The host country, Egypt, achieved six gold medals but also shared the joint highest total medal count with Morocco. Seven Games records were beaten at the 2007 edition of the event. Amr Ibrahim Mostafa Seoud of Egypt and Gretta Taslakian of Lebanon achieved the 100/200 metres double on the men's and women's sides, respectively. 2007 Pan Arab Games
The 11th Pan Arab Games took place in Cairo, Egypt from 11 – 26 November 2007. A total of 22 countries participated in 32 events. These games were the largest in the games' history; seven new events were introduced and 2000 more athletes participated than in previous years, making them 8000 Arab athletes. It was also the first time that some of the Arab football federations participated with their first teams. The Arab Games ( ar, الألعاب العربية), also called the Pan Arab Games, are a regional multi-sport event held between nations from the Arab world. They are organized by the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees. The first Games took place in 1953 in Alexandria, Egypt. Intended to be held every four years since, political turmoil as well as financial difficulties have made the event an unstable one. Women first competed in 1985. The 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games was an international sporting event held in Palembang, Indonesia from 22 September to 1 October 2013. The 2009 event, originally scheduled to take place in Iran, and later re-scheduled for April 2010, was cancelled after a dispute arose between Iran and the Arab countries. Host selection Indonesia was announced as the host for the Games on April 2011 with Pekanbaru, Riau, as the host city. The Games were then relocated to Jakarta citing lack of standard in some venues combined with a corruption case involving Governor of Riau, Rusli Zainal. The Games involve the elite athletes of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation who compete in a variety of sports. The Solidarity Games were initially created to strengthen Islamic camaraderie and reinforce the values of Islam, primarily to the youth. The Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is the organization that is responsible for the direction and control of the Islamic Solidarity Games. At the 2007 Military World Games, the track and field events were held at the G. M. C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad, India from 15 – 18 October 2007. A total of 36 events were contested, of which 22 by male and 14 by female athletes. Kenya topped the medal table with five gold medals and a total of 12 – the track and field competition accounted for all of the African nation's medals at the games, which brought them sixth place on the overall games medal count.
