Dudley Park, is a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, located approximately 3 kilometres north-west of the CBD. The suburb is bordered by Regency Road (north), Simpson Avenue (south), the Adelaide-Gawler railway line (east), and a line directly north–south from the Harrison Road-Simpson Avenue intersection to Regency Road (west). The Dudley Park Cemetery is located within the suburb at the corner of Simpson Avenue and Exeter Terrace. Two railway stations border the suburb, Islington railway station and Dudley Park railway station. Croydon is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. Named after the suburb of Croydon, it is a suburban electorate in Adelaide's inner north-west. In addition to Croydon, it includes Angle Park, Athol Park, Bowden, Brompton, Croydon Park, Devon Park, Dudley Park, Ferryden Park, Kilkenny, Mansfield Park, Regency Park, Renown Park, Ridleyton, West Croydon, Woodville Gardens; and parts of Allenby Gardens, Welland, and West Hindmarsh. Croydon was created in the 1998 electoral distribution as a safe Labor seat, replacing the abolished Spence. Bex (compound Analgesic)
Bex was a strong compound analgesic which was popular in Australia for much of the 20th century. It came in the form of APC (aspirin– phenacetin–caffeine) tablets or powder, containing 42% aspirin and 42% phenacetin plus caffeine. Bex was a product of Beckers Pty Ltd, originally based at Pym Street, Dudley Park, South Australia, but which relocated to Sydney in the 1960s. It was advertised with the phrase, "Stressful Day? What you need is a cup of tea, a Bex and a good lie down".. Bex powders, as well as other APC products such as Vincent's, were particularly seen as the housewife's drug of choice in the 1950s and 1960s. However, it became recognised that these medications were addictive, and Priscilla Kincaid-Smith found that the large doses of phenacetin ingested by habitual users were responsible for widespread kidney disease.
