Islandeady GAA (''Gaelige: CLG Oileán Éadaigh'') is a Gaelic football club located in Islandeady, County Mayo. The club was founded in 1904 and currently competes in the Mayo Junior Football Championship. The club won their most recent Junior championship in 2011 and were promoted to Intermediate level. The club were relegated to Junior level in 2020. Former Taoiseach Enda Kenny played for the club. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. A goal is awarded for kicking the ball under the crossbar into the net (the ball cannot be hand-passed into the goal), signalled by the umpire raising a green flag. Islandeady
Islandeady () is a village in County Mayo, Ireland, about halfway between the towns of Castlebar and Westport. The parish of Islandeady meets Castlebar to the east, Westport and Newport to the west, and Aughagower and Killawalla to the south. There is a view of Croagh Patrick to the west and Nephin to the northeast. The main route by road is the N5. The parish has four national schools and a private secondary school. History Islandeady parish straddles the baronies of Carra and Burrishoole. Its name was reinterpreted in recent centuries as ''Oileán Éadaí'' but ultimately derives in fact from ''Oileán Éadain'', where ''Éadan'' is a gaelicised form of the Anglo-Saxon name ''Aedwine'' or ''Haedwine''. A person of this name was ordained bishop of Mayo in the late eighth century, according to the medieval chronicler Symeon of Durham. Mayo Junior Football Championship
The Mayo Junior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by lower-tier Mayo GAA clubs. Islandeady are the title holders (2022) defeating Cill Chomáin in the Final. Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the McDonnell Cup. The winners of the Mayo Junior Championship qualify to represent their county in the Connacht Junior Club Football Championship. They often do well there, with the likes of Kilmeena (January 2022, following 2021 Mayo JFC win), Kilmaine (2019), Louisburgh (2016) and Ardnaree Sarsfields (2015) among the clubs from Mayo to win at least one Connacht Championship after winning the Mayo Junior Football Championship. Former Mayo manager John Maughan was in charge of Lahardane when they won the 2017 Mayo JFC for the first time and then followed it up with a Connacht title, also in 2017. Enda Kenny

The Mayo Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier (17-32) Mayo GAA clubs. Ballyhaunis are the title holders (2022) defeating Kilmeena in the Final. Honours The winning club competes in the Connacht Intermediate Club Football Championship. They often do well there, with the likes of Westport (2016), Hollymount Carraroe (2015), Kiltane (2013) and Charlestown Sarsfields (2012) among the clubs from Mayo to win at least one Connacht Championship after winning the Mayo Intermediate Football Championship.
