Island FM
Island FM is an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting across the Bailiwick of Guernsey on 104.7FM and 93.7FM in Alderney. Launched in 1992, Island FM remains the sole commercial station in the island and continues to be extremely successful with high listenership figures. Listening figures under a 2018 RAJAR survey showed that out of a population of 53,000 adults, 31,000 listened each week, at an average of 11.6 hours per person giving a 37% market share. As of September 2022, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 25,000 with a listening share of 26.1%, according to RAJAR. FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting using frequency modulation (FM). Channel 103 is an independent local radio station broadcasting to the island of Jersey on 103.7 FM and DAB+ digital radio. The station launched on 25 October 1992. Channel 103 is part of Tindle Radio, which also owns Island FM in Guernsey and Midlands 103 in Ireland. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 52,000 and a 29.1% market share as of December 2022 - the highest of any local radio station in the British Isles. Soleil Radio is a commercial radio station broadcasting to the Channel Islands of Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm on DAB+ digital radio. It is an easy listening station, playing relaxing music from the 1960s to present day. Soleil Radio was set up by staff at Channel 103 and Island FM to coincide with the launch of DAB in the Channel Islands. The station is owned and operated by Tindle Radio. Midlands 103 (previously known as Midlands Radio 3) is an Irish local independent radio station broadcasting to counties Laois, Offaly, and Westmeath. The station's offices and main broadcast studios are in Tullamore, County Offaly. It also has studios in Athlone Towncentre Shopping Centre, Athlone and the Bridge Shopping Centre, Tullamore, and a studio and office in Harbour Place Shopping Centre, Mullingar, with programmes being broadcast regularly from all of these. Tindle Radio is a media company which owns commercial stations in the Channel Islands and the Republic of Ireland. It has its head office in Farnham, Surrey, shared with Tindle Newspapers. History Sir Ray Tindle acquired Island FM in Guernsey in February 1998, the first station of what was to become Tindle Radio Group. The business grew to own a dozen stations, mostly located in the South and Southeast of England. Between 2007 and 2010 four stations were sold, with the final five of the UK stations offloaded in 2013 through a management buyout, forming Anglian Radio. Tindle's last station launch in England was for Ipswich, but sold interests in new licences in Andover and Southend before they began broadcasting. Independent Local Radio is the collective name given to commercial radio stations in the United Kingdom. As a result of the buyouts and mergers permitted by the Broadcasting Act 1990, and deregulation resulting from the Communications Act 2003, most commercial stations are now neither independent (although they remain independent from the BBC) nor local. Radio Joint Audience Research Limited (RAJAR) was established in 1992 to operate a single audience measurement system for the radio industry in the United Kingdom. RAJAR is jointly owned by the BBC and RadioCentre. RAJAR's predecessor was called Joint Industry Committee on Radio Audience Research (JICRAR). Prior to this, the BBC and RadioCentre's predecessor CRCA carried out their own measurements independently of each other.
