Island-class Patrol Vessel
The Island-class patrol vessel was first designed and built for the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency. As a result of the Royal Navy's experiences in the Cod Wars with Iceland, FPV ''Jura'' (loaned to the Navy as ) and FPV ''Westra'' were put in fishery protection patrols, the Navy built a further seven. These ships were designed and built by Hall Russell of Aberdeen, Scotland. Fishery protection cruisers FPV ''Jura'' and FPV ''Westra'' were built by Hall, Russell & Company of Aberdeen in 1973 and 1975 respectively. ''Jura'' was loaned to the Royal Navy between 1975 and 1977 for evaluation. HMS ''Orkney'' was an of the Royal Navy. In 2000 she became TTS ''Nelson'' of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard. In 2016, the vessel was sold for scrap. Construction and British service ''Orkney'' was built by Hall, Russell & Company in Aberdeen, launched on 29 June 1976 and commissioned in February of the following year. She was modelled on the ocean-going fishery protection vessels ''Jura'' and ''Westra''. The Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) is the military organization responsible for the defence of the twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. BNS ''Turag'' is an offshore patrol vessel of the Bangladesh Navy. She has been serving in the Bangladesh Navy since 2004.
