Islamic Reconciliation Party
Islamic Reconciliation Party or Al-Wefaq Islamic Party ( fa, حزب وفاق اسلامی, ar, حزب الوفاق الاسلامي) formerly named Reconciliation Committee ( ar, لجنةالوفاق; ''Lejnat Al-Wefaq''), was an Iranian local ethnic party associated with Arab minority in Khuzestan Province. The party had candidates shared with the Islamic Iran Participation Front, and was described as its ''Arabic wing''. It won several seats in Ahvaz's City Council, as well as a seat in the Iranian Parliament. Dissolution On 4 November 2006, the Judicial system of Iran banned the party and declared it illegal on charges of "instigating unrest" and "opposing the system", accusing it of fueling 2005 Ahvaz unrest. Following detention of some party members, a faction were radicalized and joined the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz which is a separatist militant organization designated as a "terrorist organization" by Iran. Ahwazi Arabs
Khuzestani Arabs () are the largest Arab community in Iran which primarily reside in the western half of the Khuzestan province. This area is known as Ahwaz by the Arab community, and the capital of Khuzestan is Ahvaz. As of 2010, Khuzestani Arabs numbered around 1.6 million people. Language Nearly all Khuzestani Arabs are bilingual, speaking Arabic and Persian (the official language of the country). In the northern and eastern cities of Khuzestan, Luri is spoken in addition to Persian, and the Arabic of the Kamari Arabs of this region is "remarkably influenced" by Luri. Geography Arabs are estimated to be scattered through 65% of the area of Khuzestan Province, which they share with Lurs, Bakhtiaris, Kowlis and Persian-speakers.
